Renewing photo licence

Just a thought, I passed my test 8 years ago, but if I renewed my licence now then as you have to renew every 10 years would I have to renew again in 2 years, or would it be another 10 years until it would be needed to be renewed again?
Cheers.
Why do you need it renewing now?Cheers.
I think you will need to do it again in 2 years time. Hopefully someone who has moved can confirm though.
OH lost hers, phoned up and got a replacement, 6 months later the renewal came through! Frustrating having to pay twice but maybe that's because no details changed so they don't consider it a renewal like moving?

yes it is invalid .
Use of the term 'invalid' might lead people to think that an expired photocard invalidates their entire licence, voids their insurance, deprives them of their entitlement to drive, etc etc.It doesn't.
it will also cause issues with driving for work, especially if an employer relies on 'manual' methods of checking - it would be interesting to see what result one of the licence checking services that have access the Driver database would return.
I have known job applications discontinued for out of date photocard / wrong address - admittedly the potential employer does look for any reason to get numbers down to a manageable level

They do not have a valid driving licence , they have committed a criminal offence which can result in a large fine on conviction - so it is none trivial. although in some circumstances it won't result in driving otherwise... ( group 2 driver under 45 , group 1 only driver under 70)..
I didn't say it was trivial - I said it had no bearing on entitlement to drive, nor should it result in a conviction for 'driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence'.The offence carries a fine with a statutory maximum of £1,000 and is in respect of failing to surrender a photocard within 10 years of issue.

'Might' would be a better term, rather than the all-encompassing 'will'..Supernova190188 said:

To put this thread back on track...Cheers.
...if you renew now, the photocard will be valid for ten years from the date of issue.
You can renew more frequently if you wish, for example, if you are vain, have a facelift, and don't like the photo of the 'old' you on your license
Every time you renew, you must pay the fee in effect at the time.
The easy way to do it is to go to a larger Post Office. They will take a digital photo of you, take the fee, and return your old card to DVLA. There is no risk that the photo will be rejected as the staff on the counter will compare your photo to the relevant rules governing 'true likeness' etc. Some time later the new card will arrive in the post. Job's a fish.

I dont think that this is correct. I believe that if you supply a new photo and the fee (OH lost hers, phoned up and got a replacement, 6 months later the renewal came through! This is certainly what Im about to do as I am changing something else on my licence (which has three years remaining).
