Having cancelled SKY as we are hardly using it, I have decided to get a freesat box instead. Can anyone make any recommendations, basically I want a replacement for the SKY+ functions of pause, rewind and record.

As ever all Ithe reviews are mixed, though Humax does seem the best option. But do I go for the current one with the freebie function:

Or go for the cheaper option:

If your budget can stretch to it FreeTime is the way to go. It's the FreeSat equivalent of YouView.

According the JoinFreeSat it's cheaper from a number of alternative suppliers.

TiO update this thread, I went for the Humax HDR1000S. So far I am impressed, thought somewhat naively I had hoped the FreeTime feature would run through the satellite rather than broadband. There is no phone socket anyway close to my lounge, so must invest in a very long cable or see if I can use wifi somehow.

I too have just bought one of these to replace a TiVo box, impressed so far. Only downside for me so far is the ability to only record 2 channels.

I use a TimeCapsule for wifi, so just bought an Airport Express to sit next to the Humax box, all very easy to setup and works very well.

So let me get this right.

If I buy something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DHP-307AV-PowerLine...

and plug one into my router and then the other by my Humax box then the internet signal is transmitted though the electrical cables?!

Really, that is amazing. I love technology, just wish I understood it

Yes, these are what you need. Good luck, please let us know how you get on with the Freesat box as I'm planning on the same as I'm sick of Virgin putting their prices up (3 times in 18 months) and I find the BB very unreliable i.e no service at all intermittently.. I won't even mention the 'Super'hub... christ it's appalling!

I have a netgear wnce2001 plugged into mine as I had the same distant phone socket as you describe. Absolutely spot on. Daughter has one on her smart tv and others on ph recommended it to me.

An update as requested - overall I am pleased with it, but its not as user friendly or intuitive as the SKY+ box was. It seems that you have to access more menus to actually achieve something, but the picture quality is very good and that's really what it is all about.
