1972 Porsche 911t, lhd
Discussion
I have just acquired the above, without an engine.I know nothing about 911's, but I've always loved restoring things.
My question being, what engine should I be on the look out for?,with the age of it,the 2.4 would be the natural choice, but I've heard their as rare as rocking horse ****,and very expensive.
As my budget is limited and just want the fun of driving it where should I be looking?

I'm no 911 expert but no doubt someone will be along shortly to tell you there's no cheap way of getting an old 2.2 or 2.4 into one of these. The magnesium crank cases don't age well and without a strip down & reseal you'll be chasing oil leaks. The suggestions of a 3.2 or 3.6 are good advice & should prove to be more reliable. Originality is great but it doesn't come cheaply!
I would expect to pay 5K to 15K for a 2.4 engine depending whether you are going for an unknown quantity (and praying) or fully rebuilt.
An SC or 3.2 engine isn't necessarily any less but much easier to find and therefore more likely to find one that hasn't been rebuilt that you can have confidence in at a reasonable price. There are extra costs in fitting a later engine as they are not a simple bolt in and it also depends on what gearbox you want to mate it to.
