Despite much adjusting and general faffing around, the ball/socket securing retainers at either side of my service bonnet remain very tight - particularly when trying to open the bonnet. It there some knack to these or an alternative securing mechanism?

If not I can see a file may be required to improve the situation.

Cheers

Its much to do with the angle they are adjusted to, however a blob of copper slip on mine has made them much easier to use.

A thin cable tie formed into a loop fed under the corners and pulled is the best way of opening the service bonnet. Tight is good, it stops your service bonnet from popping open smile .

Mine was really tight but I used to get round it by fitting one corner first then the other corner, then used the catch inside the service bonnet last. If I fitted the catch first I could not get the drivers side to go into position.

Job done.....

Removed the main bonnet (with the help of Mrs Dastardly), access was then easy to properly adjust the ball fitting on the service bonnet; was also able to stretch the spring fastner on the socket, this removed much of the strain when trying to "unclip" the service bonnet.

Very straight forward really,
