Formatting in quotes

Something that's bugged me a few times now:

When posting a reply where I've included a quote from another user, I cant get any of the formatting codes to work between the [q uote=xxx] and [/q uote].

I tried to use make some text bold this morning, checked it in Preview and no bold text. The codes work outside of the quote, but not inside. Same thing yesterday for some italic text.

I haven't gone so far as to trust that it has worked, make the post, then go back to the thread to see if the formatting has been applied and adjust accordingly, as that just seems like a phaff.

Formatting inside quotes in a post hasn't worked, neither [b] nor [i]. Grrrr!!
