Setting up a pay-as-you-go Wanadoo account on a mates old computer (He's passing it on to his mother), and I am having a real problem getting email to work.

I can receive, but not send. As far as I can see, all of the settings are correct (account details, SMTP server etc) but whenever I send, I get:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'someone@somewhere.com' 03/10/2004 12:22
550 Administrative prohibition

Can't see any reported problems on Wanadoo's pages, and don't really want to dial a premium rate number for technical help.

Anyone any suggestions?

Am I doing something stoopid?!

Are you dialing up via Wanadoo ?

If not, their servers might think you are trying to relay.

I wasn't.... but have now disconnected my broadband, and dialled up using the Wanadoo account I have created for my mate's mum.... still get problems!

God! Dial-up is so slow when you are used to broadband!

I'd try doing a POP3 mail check first, then sending mail. They might have implemented POP3-before-SMTP authentication. Or try setting SMTP Authentication in the options (same username/password as your POP3 account)
