I am looking for something to replace a 996 turbo. I not looking for a daily driver, something for summer evenings and weekends and the odd track day. I appreciate at the moment this is setup as a race car but could it be made more compliant for the road with some suspension tweaking?

I was thinking about a 996 GT3/RS or 997 GT3 but this caught my eye. I used to really enjoy the turbocharged power available from the 996t but want something that is raw and more challenging to drive. The idea of something air cooled appeals.

It has a tuned 993 turbo engine in it at present.

Is this a crazy idea and should I be sticking to road cars?

Thanks for your words of wisdom. Actually I work from home and don't tend to roll out of bed before 10am on weekdays...

Then I fear you won't get the medical help you need and will end up buying ...

Seriously, I've seen friends with modded cars and i think they fall into two categories:

1. those that love modding, chasing down a few bhp here and there, tinkering with just about everything, always got upgrades on the go and love 'playing with the car (probably more than driving it), £££ flow freely.

2. then there's those who've bought heavily modded cars with the view of just 'using' them. They tend to get frustrated when things do work, parts don't match the manuals, no one understands the mods that have been done, the ££££ build up and the car is usually sold for a great loss.

Personally I think modded cars are for modders who want to spend the time continually tinkering and modding.

Ha ha, I catch you drift now James smile

Thanks for your comments. I am not particularly mechanically minded and one of the things I liked about my 996t was that it never let me down when I turned the key and always performed very consistently. I am not really into tinkering and just like things to work. I do think it is quite a bit of money for something which has been built up from a 993 C2. I will have a drive of a 996 / 997 GT3 and see what I think of those.
