Lancaster Flypast ... last sunday
Discussion
SWMBO and I were making the most of the sun on Sunday, when the stillness was shattered by the sound of a prop aircraft getting louder n louder. So up we jumped and started to look for the source of the sound. When it got to the point that all we could hear was prop, and it really seemed like something was going to hit us we were treated to an amazing site .. the BBMF Lancaster at what seemed to be roof height !!!!
Looked absolutly amazing, ran upstairs to see it circling around and heading back to us.
We've a steam railway line at the bottom of the garden (Blunsdon & Cricklade) and it looks like the Lancaster was doing a fly by of the station / public area there. We were just fortunate to be at the place where the pilot was turning in and lining up for his fly by.
From Upstairs is looked as if we were on a level with it !!! Just how low would it have been ???
Managed to get a cpl of pics which I'll upload later !
Absolutely BRILL !!!

It's transit height is around 500ft if I remember correctly. Always an awesome site and I never get bored of it.
It really brings it home when you take a walk around inside as its so dark and cramped you realise how hard it must have been to get out the aircraft if it was in trouble.

I went round the BBMF hangar a couple of years ago and somebody asked "Smithy", OC BBMF if they ever got complaints about noise. He said, no, never, but the jet boys do!
I've actually taken a complaint about the lancaster before. An ex military air traffic controller kicking off it was too low and if an engine failed it would have hit his house and should be in a museum and not in the air. To which the reply was it has 4 engines! Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
