Mine has had it. Everytime i switch them on they move about an inch and then blow the fuse. Taken the motor out and it stinks of burning.
From researching it would appear they are a Lucas 29W. Has anyone tried fitting a 14W. Do they interchange ok. The wipers will probably only go on at mot time and the 14W seems available at good prices.

Are you certain it is the motor ?
If the mechanism has not moved or been lubricated for ages it may be very stiff which is causing the motor to get hot. If that is the case a new motor will probably do the same thing. Does the motor still blow the fuse if disconnected from the linkage ?

I had the same problem a long time ago. From asking around, the motor is from a Jag XJ-S. I couldn't find one to buy cheaply (the dealer nearest me wanted £400 plus VAT), so I took the old one to an auto salvage who reckoned it was the same as one they had in. It wasn't, but it was the brushes which had gone and the one they had (off a Mini, I think) had the same brush set. I bought that one and swapped them over, so it would appear that certain parts may be interchangeable. Hope this helps.
Try Adrian at Exactly TVR, he rebuilds these as well as specialising in the older TVR's.........he's a top bloke and re commisioning my TVR Taimar currently.

Hi Carsy, the 29W was used extensively on the Jag XJ cars from late 80's into the 90's. I have just looked on fleabay and there are stacks of them listed under "Jaguar XJ Wiper Motor", try this link -

Thanks for the suggestions lads. Adrian, what is wrong with using a 14W. After all it is a windscreen wiper motor designed to move two wiper arms. Does the TVR really need the bigger motor.
Anyway i have found this guy on Ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-12V-14W-WIPER-MOTO... Matlby Auto electrical who is very helpfull. He is willing to let me try the 14W and if it turns out it is no good will take it back no problem and OR will re build mine for £60. Maywell go with mine being re furbed for £60. Will let you know how i get on.

Right, after looking for a replacement second hand 29W motor it would seem they are even rarer than hens teeth. Basically there are non out there. I toyed with gambling on a similar looking one or even the smaller 14W of ebay, but these may have turned out to be a total waste of money or caused yet more grief trying to make them fit and ultimately not up to the job, so have decided on Adrian@`s refurb.
The next problem i have is one of the wheel boxes for the wipers, while not totally siezed is very stiff. Unable to turn by hand but will turn fairly easy with the help of a spanner. Dont know if this was the cause of my motor going pop but i`m sure wouldnt have helped things. I have repeatedly drowned it in WD40 and worked and worked it hoping it would free up but no. So has anyone changed one.
It would seem its yet another of TVR`s top designs, ie you cant get to them. I recon i have two options;
1, to remove the plastic scuttle type affair which covers them in the engine bay. This looks like a total mare of a job access wise and looks like its really a job for when the engine is out.
2, Take dash and surround out and cut an access hole or holes in the bulkhead and attack them that way.
I am favouring the later at the minute but was wondering if anyone had done this job and how they went about it.
