CAR STEREO'S FOR A TVR TUSCAN
Discussion
Hi all, me AGAIN!
Getting the interior done and just wanted to have your thought on a car stereo that has bluetooth?
Most impotatntly I hate answering my phone in the Tuscan and the hands free on an Iphone is not that good considering the Tuscan engine is soooo loud.
Has anyone got the systems that you can speak hands free and the voice comes out of the speakers.
Sorry for a boring thread!
Dani.

I think its a fine idea to install kit that can minimise you from being distracted whilst taking a call in the car. Obviously its best not to take a call at all, but we all know that we do it, so why not make it as safe as possible!
I work in the industry and there are a number of solutions out there.
Personally I've tried the Pioneers App Radio 2 which is OK but not very well integrated and a number of Bluetooth head units that connect to your phone and provide a microphone/hands free functionality.
The Parrot Asteroid is not a bad bit of kit, but the apps available are limited and trying to see them on the small screen, particularly where the head unit is mounted in a Tuscan ain't great.
The best open top telephone system is the Parrot twin microphone system as it can cancel out background noise. You can connect their systems into the back of most head units. This new Parrot looks very good. http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/asteroid-range/p...
I'll be doing an Ipad mini install into my Tuscan with a Sony Bluetooth head unit, amps, 6 channel component speaker system and twin microphone/throat microphone system in the very near future. If your interested in taking a look when its done you'd be more than welcome. Here's a basic sketch of what I'm planning.

Another vote for Parrot Asteroid (classic). Screen size is good enough to use for navigation (I have the free offline Navigon and it works great). Takes SD card, Bluetooth from phone, USB and 3.5mm line in. Bluetooth compatability for calls and music works brilliantly with my Sony phone, voice control works very well, and it's all only 240 quid new. It's also about half the depth of a normal CD radio, so room behind for extra stuff if you like. And there is a world of possibility with hacks for different skins and even a USB reversing camera.
Startup time is a bit slow and it has crashed and rebooted itself twice, but I'm very pleased with it overall. Been thinking about fitting it to some of my other cars!

Just been to buy an Astroid Classic (Halfords have them on special offer £220 until Monday) but there's no DAB.
Put me off, isn't ordinary radio switching to DAB soon so the only available radio will be internet radio.
Shame, seems a cracking thing apart from that.
Anyone know of or recommend anything else that works with an iPhone/iPod, has hands free and is DAB?

I use Alpine IVA-D511r with the corresponding Alpine bluetooth kit...sound is actually OK even up to motorway limit with the roof off. Couldn't possibly comment as to what it would sound like at higher speeds than that
The touchscreen UI is very good, but only irritation is that you have to switch phone (in my case BB) off and on sometimes as contact list doesn't come up.
Martin - would be great to meet up the next time I am in the Guildborough area to discuss what you are doing with iPad. I'm trying to convince myself to leave this area alone but keep thinking something like this (or car PC) where you can get phone/nav/sounds, plus telemetry off the ECU and record/manage footage from a gopro would be great.

For sure Simon. Will be a few weeks before I get the car back from Sportmotive, but then I'm cracking on with the stereo and electrics. Got to start up that 4.3 soon. It's been way too long since I installed the engine and its been sat there talking to me saying "START ME UP....START ME!!!"

Ta da. There it is! Feels about right from a reach and position point of view. The mechanism allows for full rotation into portrait, tilts backwards for cd access and the whole thing can be removed using an Allen key. Will try driving around tomorrow and we’ll see if it stays fairly steady. Each adjustment of the arm can be tightened up to stiffen up the movement.

Just had an Alpine 136BT fitted in my Cerbera, complete with iPhone Bluetooth hands free. Has a USB connection and DAB, so I can hear the radio for the first time. Might be worth a look.
Waits for comments about who needs a stereo in a Cerbera ...

Definitely agree with above, had the 112BT in my last Cerb. The new one had the Parrot (nice but clumsy) after a week it crashed and bricked itself so I opted for the 136BT great system, brill sound, front usb and iPod connect! mic and hand free is great (mounted behind wheel in centre of instrument dials).Waits for comments about who needs a stereo in a Cerbera ...

Picking up from Power in an hour from 12k/tappet service so will really be able to review then and post some pics. Cant wait to have the BEAST back! For Sat Nav I use a TomTom One mounted in the space below the stereo on the Beanbag weight. Love it!
Just seen this. Could be an interesting upgrade, especially those who want a sat nav for touring!

Hi, I have this, its only half deep and lightweight, and does what you want, blue tooth and a mic etc, not that I know how that works its in my new project car, its cheap, lightweight had enough things on it and the sound was way better than I thought (almost never listen to radio in a V8 car but...)
its the Renkforce RUSD-1803BT
see here in Dutch, look somewhere in UK :-)
