Zero Alcohol Beers

Sometimes, i like the refreshing taste of a beer, but I don't want the alcohol. I can only seem to find one non alcoholic beer which is remotely drinkable, and that's Beck's Blue, so long as it's ice cold.

I tried Non Alcoholic Cobra last week, and that was horrific - smelt very odd and had an overbearing taste of what I guess was the rice.

Any other non alcoholic beers people can suggest?

I'd concur with your findings so far, alcohol free Cobra is particularly nasty.

Brewdog do a very low alcohol beer called Nanny State - 0.5% iirc, I'd like to give that a go but haven't managed to get hold of any yet.

Erdinger alkoholfrei is supposed to be good, and an isotonic recovery drink to boot.

Agree about Beck's Blue, it's okay. Many years ago you could get a draft lager called Swan Lite which was actually ok for luchtime if you didn't want to fall asleep in the afternoon. Haven't seen it for ages.

It's insanely hoppy to the point it's a bit like one of those sour sweets you used to get as a kid. My Mrs loves hoppy beers and still wasn't too keen on it. It took 5 of us to get through the half we bought at a beer festival.

Interesting, Brewdog do like their hops though! (which I am a big fan of).

Are you a fan of their other stuff? Punk/hardcore/5am etc...?

I've only tried that and the tactical thermonuclear penguin, extremes I know but I wouldn't bother with either again.

I love penguin, prefer it to the stronger still 'Sink the Bismark'.

Their hoppier beers do tend to be extremely hoppy, to the point they have a fruity aroma.

Been a fan of Brewdog for sometime, but some years back I remember thinking Punk IPA was rank when it first came out. Funny how it's now a firm favourite.

Wife and I did their beer school in the Newcastle bar earlier this year (was a Christmas present) and I have to say it was a fantastic couple of hours an thoroughly recommend it.

Wife had alcohol free San Miguel on holiday couple of years ago as she was pregnant and it was actually really nice. Unlike most other alcohol free beers this actually tasted like beer. Man I could go a beer...
