Can someone explain the following?

I have a Panasonic TX-P50S20B which has a Virgin media box (V box HD) plugged into HDMI 1 and an Xbox 360 plugged into HDMI 2.

When I change channels (input AV button) to the xbox it says it's on 1080p / 60hz but the cable (virgin box) input is on 720p / 50hz.

Standard TV (input TV button) doesn't say what it is except DVB (or analogue which is just snow on all channels)

I'm a bit worried this sounds really stupid but Is this right? Should it not be 1080p like the xbox?

Can the virgin box put out 1080p? I know the sky HD box can't. You can only do 1080i.

That is something I should have checked before asking, but it seems you're right, it only puts out a 720p 50hz signal for the telly to pick up.

You helped me answer my own question though, thanks!

edit: just found a 1080i setting on the virgin box so will try that for a while and see if it's an improvement

Virgin will output at 1080i, sounds like you have found the setting to change it. I have a Panasonic and Virgin and mine says 1080i 50Hz when you're on the virgin input.
