Thinking of getting a Roland VG8 or 88

I've never done much more than strum a guitar (though I do know all the chords), and I fancy setting a 6 string up to sound like a twelve string, and being able to transpose in order be able to choose a suitable key to sing in, whilst making the fingering easier.

They crop up on eBay from time to time, as do the pickups.

Has anyone owned one of these, anything I should know? Opinions, positive or negative?

I have VG99 - it is incredibly capable - two entirely separate chains of virtual guitar, amp and fx. I don't think there is still anything more powerful out there BUT you need to use the PC editor to get the best out of it for programming patches. If you like things simple it probably isn't for you but if you like to dig in a bit well, it's the absolute nutz!! You really need the Foot controller to eek the best out of it. I've yet to hear any other Preamp/MultiFX get closer to Ty Tabors early Kings X sound.

I have, thanks, and have already had some good info. I would probably be a bit further into it if I wasn't spending most of my spare time trying to learn Cubase (and get it working properly) at the same time.
