Buying a Griff
Discussion
Hello All,
I'm looking to buy a Griff as a keeper (will be my fourth TVR following an S3, Griffith 4.3 BV and 450 SEAC) and am currently considering a few very nice looking cars from the PH classifieds. Can anyone give me a steer about current values as they do seem to have 'firmed up' since I sold my last Griff in 2003? I've got a decent budget, so money itself is not an issue, but I don't want to overpay. Also, I'm now living in France and from what I've gathered, in order to register the car here I will need to buy one with a GC5P chassis number. Does anyone know what the implications of this are? As far as I can tell they only apply to cars from 95/96 which will mean a 500 rather than a pre-cat. Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi Mark,
I also live in France and have recently bought a '98 Griff 500 in the UK - and got it registered over here! Based on experience and hearsay, I reckoned it would be possible to register it myself but found a specialist foreign vehicle importer who did it for me. For me, the time and hassle it saved me was worth every penny of the €800 it cost. I can also direct you to a supplier of French backlit plates - that took as long as the registration!
As for values, my advice would be to pay whatever it costs to get the right car for you. If you acquire the car you want, in the condition you want, any slight overpayment today will mean nothing in the long run if it's to be a keeper.
I've also sent you a PM.
Glyn
