Been thinking about using Facebook as a way to show photos...

I have a website (that as all websites seem to, needs an overhaul) & I'm on flickr.

So I've been wondering about the best way to sign up to Facebook - ideally I'd just like the name 'motionimages'.

Facebook has the option pages for "..a celebrity, band or business." so I guess that is what I want as it won't be a personal page..... however it's not really a business either - I don't make money from it.

Anyone know the best way of signing up in this way? Does that limit / change what the page can do in comparison to normal personal pages? & does that even matter? smile

Also, should I even bother signing up? hehe

Thanks all smile

Depends who your audience is intended to be.

FacileBook is fine for letting a small circle of friends know what's what.

All sizes of business use it, having attracted followers on its own website or from other advertising as a string to promotional bow - for example I follow Billingham on FB: it's just a collection of customers posting up pictures of their Billingham bags!

You can set-up your page as a media/news/publishing or something like that or as an artist. It doesn't make a lot of difference as people will look if they like the photos.

FB quality settings leave a lot to be desired, but as a way of getting your photos noticed it's very good, though they do sometimes encourage you to pay to promote your posts. You can also use an iphone app called Facebook Pages to view and manage everything whilst out and about.

My FB page is here: https://www.facebook.com/FlatOutPhoto (any new likes would be very welcome biggrin), and as an example I posted up some photos of the SMRC races at Knockhill from last Sunday, and this week the total reach for my page (views in flickr terms) has been over 22,000. Posting a steady stream of new content seems to work best for growing your audience, rather than the occasional mass upload every few months with nothing in between that I tend to do.

Make sure you enable your photos to be seen by the widest audience, allow comments, people to tag themselves and others etc.

I do ok with my fb page I like the interactivity of it. I'm on as an 'artist'

https://www.facebook.com/RobDickinsonPhotography

Ive had a 'reach' of 500k+ at times amd a nice core group of 'fans'.

You get to name it properly for the URL after about 50 likes.

It keeps changing for worse though...
The quality of the photos is horrible, comapring to flickr and google+. You HAVE TO pay to get noticed, Facebook won't show your oage to many people if you won't pay to promote it.

Unfortunately it's like ebay - a necessary evil

I've just set up a Page as an artist (www.facebook.com/SamFrostPhotography). I discovered afterwards however that if you don't have a personal profile, you cannot do nearly as much, even as your Page. For instance there was no search bar, you can't 'Like' other pages, and probably more too. I've now set up a personal profile as well (completely empty), and set myself as an admin of my Page. I still use Facebook as my Page rather than myself (if you see what I mean), but I have more options available now. Having never used Facebook until a few weeks ago, I am now finding that nothing is intuitive!

Finally got around to setting this up smile

Think this is the url: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Motionimages/559334...

Any tips on traffic? As mentioned, can't 'like' other pages, but any good ideas like adding 'keywords' or something?
(you can tell I really know what I'm doing hehe)

And you just got your first "like" courtesy of me via my https://www.facebook.com/bigmacphotography?ref=hl. FB page.

If you have a personal page you can then "like" other pages that you are interested in and get known that way.

I find FB perfect for my mountain bike work as literally seconds after I upload a race days photos the lads that race are sharing and tagging each other and getting the photos seen and hopefully bought! That and spending a lot of time sharing albums with the various teams and shops that were present works really well for me.

It was a programme about how you can buy fake 'likes' on FB, etc.

Yeah, while I'm here, I might as well promote my page..... ideahttps://www.facebook.com/photogemm

I've always wondered if a personal page would be better for this tbh. As you have a number of restrictions as a business page.. tagging, page reach, paid to be seen etc etc. But that said I've continued with the business page.

You guys are reaching some BIG numbers there! I'm over the moon when I'm reaching over 1k! Though I have had a few spikes after uploading a set of photos with a lot of people in.

And here's to jumping on the band wagon - I'm PGDesigns on facebookbiggrin

I sort of agree in that I find it easier to run a personal page and I just make sure permissions are set up in such a way that I can share personal stuff with my actual friends and not the whole world. I have a dedicated page as well but I can't decide what I want to share on it.

If anyone would like to give it a like it is here. https://www.facebook.com/v12media
