How far on a tank fuel
Discussion
I always reckoned for around 220 on a tank and filling up around then or before. There's a not to many long runs between garages on the auto routes so you should be ok.
Also make sure you fill up when you get down there or just before as when you leave it gets busy and mast thing you need to be us sitting in traffic at a garage..which leads nicely into WHY don't you sort tge hot start problem out?
Good luck

As per previous Griff mileage discussions, it all depends on how you drive the car - they can do about 30mpg if you are being sensible and cruising but as you know much less if giving it some beans - but when in France and assuming not being too silly you should get 23/25mpg so the advice above makes sense - I'd do the 220ish and not leave it too late to fill up - and as you may find yourself queuing at filling stations in (hopefully) decent sunny weather it would be less embarassing to fix the hot start problem before you go (after all it doesn't improve with leaving it and may get worse particularly in hotter weather).

If a Griff tank is identical to a Chimaera tank (which I'm pretty sure it is) it holds 57 litres which is 12.55 UK Gallons.
I have seen 312 miles from a tank at a steady 80mph cruise, but that was in a 4.0 litre Chim and I was sucking on fumes at the end of the run.
The best thing you can do to establish your range is start by working out your true MPG by brimming the tank, going for a 100 mile drive or so, then brim it again.
Check the pump reading to see how much fuel you've used over the given recorded distance you've covered between the pumps.
Your genuine MPG is then an easy calculation.
Take your known accurate MPG and multiply it by 12.55, this will give you your absolute maximum range.
I suggest using 12 as your multiplier not 12.55 just to be on the safe side, this way you'll always know you've got a couple of litres in reserve.
Remember range can be dramatically altered by fuel economy, & how you drive the car can dramatically alter your fuel economy.
For example:
My 312 miles on 12 gallons is 312/12 = 26mpg Average over the 312 miles.
If you are driving a 5.0 litre Griff like it should be, you could easily be seeing 19mpg.
That would be 19mpg x 12 Uk gallons = a maximum range of 228 miles with those 2 litres spare.
Like that I would set myself a safe limit of 210 miles between fills.
But you really need to understand your car's fuel economy at different types of driving before you set your own fuel range limit.
Hope this helps?
PS: I currently get 220 miles on 50 litres of LPG with a further 150 miles available from the auxiliary petrol tank, for a total touring range of 370 miles between fills.
When I fit the smaller LPG injectors & squeeze in another 4.5 litres of gas in the LPG tanks we anticipate the dual fuel range will be 435 miles between fills
In practice it's way more than I'll ever need

roof on makes a big difference. With it on, I have got 280+ miles, with a reasonable of spare in the tank, at least a couple of times with a mixture of local running, fast A roads and lots of motorways
But thats because it's raining right? so you're taking it easy. Why else would the roof be on?davetherave1970 said:

Either I have a lead right foot or my gauge is out.
I fill up at 175 miles. On a long run I didn't go much further than 200 miles.
May have to do the "fill, drive 100 miles, fill and work it out!
Hey! What are we doing here? Surely our cars are for fun and the fuel consumption (however good or bad) is the cost of that fun. We must be careful because there will be debates over: getting into 5th as soon as possible to save fuel, reducing tyre width, changing ecu programmes to give lean burn, etc etc. Even worse - Hybrid Griffs aaaaaah
At the end of the day, hood up or down (preferred), let us enjoy the beasts for as long as possible before the Eurocrats ban them entirely and banish us to forever drive a Prius or Hyundi i10!!!!!!!!!!!

Not complaining at all. The lower the MPG the more fun I'm having
