These things are bombproof, a mate had a new one in 1997 and the abuse it took was bordering on close to willing destruction.

A change of wheels would do it the world of good

Bombproof, perfect 1st car , shame they didn't make a newer Gti/Sport version of it though

I echo the comments above. The monster in law has been driving one of these (only in 1st to 3rd and max revs before changing up), for the last 14 years at least. All 3 daughters learnt to drive in it, and apart from a dead ecu at one point, it's been really reliable.

My Mum had one of these when i passed my test back in the 90's.

I seem to recall they were very long-legged so 5th not being used could actually be true!!!

It was also the car i broke my 100mph virginity in....happy days.

Friend had one, would highly recommend you get the front struts checked asap.

I drove it back and noticed it 'wobbled' at speed but not like a out of balance wheel or tracking, turned out the strut was rusted badly around the bracket. He went on to sell it to a garage and the wheel practically fell off

serviced every year, dont think i want to touch it, will keep it original
