Just been listening to The White Room for the first time in years. I'd forgotten how fking good it is, and it reminded me that Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty were a lot more interesting and nuts than anyone in the charts now.

Anyone else here remember (or like) them?

The white room was the first album I ever bought.

I got into them before I relaised Drummond was ex-Teardrop Explodes.

Ace album and with the added nuttiness of setting fire to a million quid!!!

I have their '1987:WTF Is Going On' LP - it is not an easy listen, to be honest.

Awesome.

Remember dancing to them in loads of smoke with whistles and stuff to 'what time is love'.

Got The White Room on my play list too and seems timeless.

KLF are awesome - Chill Out is probably one of my most-played albums ever. Talking of Teardrop Explodes, Julian Cope wrote a superb book called 'Head on'. Well worth a read.

But yes, White Room is superb!

I know, I got a mention, albeit tiny in that book. I also gave him some material that was included in The Modern Antiquarian.

They were pretty bonkers. Burning a million quid, throwing dead sheep at the front rows & letting loose with machine guns at The Brits, Doctorin The Tardis....

Last Train To Trancentral is a cracking tune too.

I've read a couple of Drummond's other books '45' and 'How to be an Artist', the man's very interesting even if his music isn't to your taste.

Ballad version of J&A on the tape of the single was cleverly produced too
I remember driving in the car with the 3 kids all of us dying to join in the rap and shout 'Bring the beat back' at the appropriate moment

I've always preferred their album Chill Out, never get bored of it and it is pretty aptly named. Some of the samples are really diverse but it works, have to listen to it start to finish in order to get the train ride through America experience they intended .

A true classic album worth seeking out in addition to their other highlights WTIL and It's Grim up North.

Drummond was the Teardrops manager, he was in the group Big in Japan.

He's a great writer, try and get yourself a copy of Bad Wisdom that he wrote with Mark (Zodiac Mindwarp) Manning.

Only KLF could get away proto-rave 'What Time Is Love' next to a Europop tune.

Clearly an influence for The Prodigy and Altern-8. Shame we we will never see the likes of them again.
