991 GT3 Sold Out?

I've just been on the phone to an OPC who have told me that ALL the build slots for cars in the next 2 years have been taken and the car is sold out.

Is this correct?

There will be more production/allocation next year, as in the past. My OPC said their 991 Turbo allocation was sold until next year, but these aren't 'limited edition' models, Porsche will want to satisfy genuine demand.

Then there will be the RS models, then there'll be a hiatus, then the 'facelift' model.....it's a fairly predictable formula.

as each OPC only had up to 5 to sell in year one then it's no shock :-)

A few people will probably back out between now and delivery too, so if you wanted one and have missed the boat then letting a couple of OPCs know that you are interested will likely see you getting a call at some point...

They are not all sold out. My local OPC has only sold 2 of their 5 allocation. They have 3 built slots available for delivery early 2014.

I should imagine that there will be a few GT3's up for grabs when they release details of the RS and customers change their minds

When I enquired about putting a deposit on an RS they said don't bother, they have several letters of intent and will be unlikely to get enough cars to fulfil those letters let alone any new enquiries, hence will people really be chopping in the vanilla GT3 for a GT3 RS?

I suspect that this is part of the problem. The GT3 has now reached the point (cost wise) where the step to an RS is expected to amount to little more than overzealous use of the options list and everyone who can afford one seems to be more interested in the one that will be announced in a few months time and ought to start deliveries next summer rather than at the onset of winter.....

Since the RS will very likely be restricted in volume as all previous ones have been, if you want one and haven't had a letter in for a couple of years you are probably out of luck.

They will be working hard to create the illusion of greater distance between the GT3 and RS but it won't be much. The GT3 engine is reported at 475 but delivers c.500 which is where the RS will be quoted. Will be interesting to see if there are any hardware changes rather than just software (like the 991 turbo S v normal 991 turbo).

If its mechanically similar then the difference will be the extra extra wide 991 turbo body (gone too far IMHO) and the lairy aero/graphics.
