Hi,

I know this has probably been done to death but I can't decide...

Looking for a c2s and have driven a pdk and manual but still can not decide. The pdk was great fun on the test drive for 2 hours but I am not sure the novelty will wear off after a short while of ownership.

I have always owned manuals on other Porsches but really fancy the pdk for a change but do not want to live to regret it.

Anyone with real life experience that can offer some help either way?

Many thanks

If you are looking for a definitive answer, you won't get one!

From my point of view PDK / DCT is great for a couple of months, then you miss the interaction of a manual and start hunting the classifieds. That said does depend on the type of driving you do. Lots of stop starts and traffic then the PDK is a no brainer!

Cheers

Unless you live in the country and don't do much town / city driving get a manual, otherwise - PDK.

Thanks. That's my concern that after a few months I will want change... I don't want to make that mistake as I usually keep a car for 3 or 4 years.

In the same situation myself-drove PDK & found it 1st class. Unfortunately I only had access to 2 2006 manuels & was not overly impressed with several of the gear selections. Think it's going to be PDK-but not sure how manuel selection works on it-holding onto a gear longer than when in automatic. Double selection clutch/gear system is superb-not comparable with gearbox in my 530d even though completely different. Think PDK has done it for me-personal choice.

I went PDK a few months ago. I wasn't overly keen on it at first, but it grew on me. Can't see me ditching it for manual any time soon.

Lots of town and city driving pdk, fun sunny day driving out of town and city manual. I tried pdk with paddles on two cars but eventually bought manual as was not sure how long it would be before i got bored of the pdk as once i had driven the pdk cars for a while i found i just got lazy and stuck it in auto, they are both excellent though

Reminds me of the sunny day in 2003 when my dear friend Seb declared he was buying an analogue Nikon F4 camera because he thought digital pictures lacked "depth". Ahem.

Maybe my question should have been...

Did you choose pdk and now regret it?

I was in the same position as you a while ago. I went PDK and have no regrets. I then bought another car and had the same debate all over again. And then bought PDK. As someone said, you're not going to get a definitive answer to the 'blonde vs brunette' debate.

Personally, I feel that your perception of PDK will be influenced by whether you have paddles or not. I can't stand the standard steering wheel push/pull mechanism. If I want to take over in manual, it's a quick flick and go, you don't have to start pushing the shift control with your thumbs. That would be enough to push me to manual so my advice would be to make sure you've tried both before deciding.

PDK, it's the future! 991 PDK so much better than 997. Found clutch quite heavy, so went PDK. Occasionally frustrating, but no more so than a manual will be at times....

In the end,as long as you embrace yr decision, either choice would not be a mistake

I find 991 pdk better than on the 997. And did buy pdk as i live in the city. Don't regret it, car does what i was looking for, i.e. go from a to b in good enough comfort, power in abundance, looks good will real quality feel. But 3 months later now look for something 'raw' for the fun driving experience.

I had this dilemma about a month ago when I decided it was time for a change from my 997.1 manual C2S coupe. I bought a C4S PDK cab and am still enjoying it. As there is the option of manual using the buttons I still find it interesting and a whole lot more modern. You have to try these things in life but I haven't regretted it. Yet...
