With fuel prices now reaching a ludicrous £1.34 per litre, what was the price of fuel per litre when you started driving.

If you only remember gallon prices, just divide by 4.5 to get litre prices.

For me, in 1991, I remember paying 49p per litre.

You?

For me it was around march 2007. I remember it being around 90p or so and then after the spike in fuel prices in 2008, came all the way down to 82.9p. Will never see it that low again. frown

I have a diary entry from about six or seven years ago where I write that I'm not buying petrol that day as it had went up to 83p/litre. I resented paying so much and would wait for it to come down before filling up. hehe

I wasn't driving but remember the major fuel price strikes in 2000 as the price reached a heady 80p.

£1.70 ish per gallon (38p per litre) when I started.

Cheapest was when I lived in the U.S we were paying $0.76 per gallon ($0.20 per litre). I believe it's now around $1.00 a litre in most US states.

this was about when i started driving
i had a good 6 or 7 years of fuel prices being cheaper, or not really any more than when i started, then they went up by more than 50% in about 3 or 4 years

When I was 18 I remember a raging debate that the price of petrol might reach the heady heights of £1 per gallon (22p per litre) by the summer of that year - IIRC prices were about 85p per gallon (19p per litre). Oh those halcyon days of putting a fiver's worth of fuel in the car and driving round for a week!

I recall driving a pool car from work during that strike which my boss said to fill up at any price if I found any petrol. He was rather shocked when I filled it up at a profiteering garage selling their stock at £1.50/litre!

Less than 40p a gallon when I got my first moped. Sounds cheap, but a packet of fags was cheaper, and my Saturday job only paid 20p an hour.

I'm so old that I remember a time before unleaded, I can't remember the exact prices but I can remember that £3 would fill up a plastic jerrycan and that would get me 23 miles in a metro gta smile
