I have always been a bit of a grumpy bugger but at the minute I am so irritable. I am constantly snapping at the kids and being short with the wife. At work if one of staff my asks me a stupid question I find it hard to hide my frustration with their stupidity, in fact if anyone asks me a question at all I struggle to find the will to answer it politely. Everything at work I find boring and most, if not all, of my colleagues and customers wind me up.

Even things on PH which would normal wash over me are winding me up massively.

I am not really sure what has changed recently to make me like this but it is pissing me off and those around me.

Anyone else had something similar. Is it a phase or is this just me?

Can only relate to the last bit of above

Book a doctors appointment and sit down and talk to your wife about it and see if there is something in your life that's stressing you out, something at work for instance.

Maybe not so bad, but I was similar for most of my life.
I think age and maturity has helped, but I recently changed my diet for better, high quality food and quit drinking. Like night and day. I feel so much better ALL of the time and I can't remember the last time I had a negative thought about a colleague let alone an argument with one. It's about two years since I started eating better and about five months without alcohol - also quit fags December 2010. Pretty sure it's none of them in particular, but the combination has improved my health, fitness and mood.

My first husband was unfeasibly cross for the last year or so of our relationship. After we split up he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It was the high blood sugars that were causing it.

Similar here short tempered, tired but a 5 month old child could be the answer.

As hinted above, it could be related to your blood sugar levels. I'm glucose intolerant and when my sugars are low I'm awful.

See a doctor and explain what's happening.

A vitamin deficiency? Makes you terribly grumpy so I hear. (B may be the one...)

Thanks for all the tips. I was at the quacks recently and he tested my piss for various things and it didn't indicate diabetes then, but perhaps a more through test is required.

I have tried eating better and cutting down on booze recently in order to lose weight. Maybe that will start to take effect. May be its the withdrawal from booze thats the problem.

I spoke to the wife and we had a thought and a discussion. I think it may be work related. I have been through very stressful times in my recent career and I thought the current period wasn't that bad. However, things are happening that are not normal stress (i.e. tight deadlines, budget problems). In short, I work for a small company with a single share holder and chairman who is a mentalist. He has swings of sticking his oar in and doing stupid things. The last time he did this it had disastrous consequences and nearly destroyed the company. Its starting again and I think I was trying to ignore it but deep down it is causing some internal conflict or stress.

Guess I need to think seriously about my future.

I am fairly sure it is related but I have also been having a funny feeling in my chest. Like butterflies. There is no palpation of the heart I can see (checked with a HRM) but it comes and goes.

Sounds like you have a seriously stressful work life mate. You are coming off booze, used as a relief to stress, and you have a full home life. I've been a grumpy bastid for a few years now, don't drink, smoke and I exercise hard each day. The exercise helps, but if I miss out a day I get stroppy. Maybe you need to have a look at what you could change?
