Rocky Horror characters (Frankenfurter & Riff Raff) needed
Discussion
A slightly odd request, which I suspect won't be successful but it's worth a try!
My mother passed away recently, and has requested a slightly unusual funeral / cremation. She wants people greeted at the crematorium entrance by Riff Raff, with the words "The master awaits" - or whatever it is he said in the show.
That part is probably relatively easy to do - but if anybody wants to volunteer it would be useful. However, part 2 may be trickier to arrange.....
For part of the "ceremony" - she wants somebody to be dressed as Frankenfurter, who dances / mimes to Sweet Transvestite.....
I am meeting with the funeral directors on Monday - although they have previously told me they have some links with local amateur dramatic society, that was before I learned about the need for the Frankenfurter part - so not sure how easy they will find it to do that.
I know it's a slightly odd request - but at least it won't be a boring cremation..... Anybody with am-dram experience, especially who's done these characters before - would obviously be perfect.
I will arrange costumes.
Obviously, I will pay for this - including travel costs (it would be in St. Leonards / Hastings) - probably somewhere around 20-25th May, but I should know the date at the start of next week.
In the unlikely event you can help - or know somebody who can - please let me know.

Hi mate. I cannot help with your request but thought it right to at least reply to your post and to offer my condolences with regard to mother passing away. I hope she gets what she requested and as there are plenty of good eggs on this forum i hope its someone here who can help.

Thanks. I spoke to the funeral company today, and although I expected this to be a problem they didn't seem to think so. They already have somebody lined up who they reckon can actually sing the track and not just mime. I came away a lot more relaxed. So, hopefully it's now sorted. Thanks for the support.
Today was the day of the cremation, so I thought I'd close the thread. Although I imagine most people will not need something quite so unusual - if anybody near Hastings is in the unfortunate position of needing a funeral director, I can very much recommend A C Towner.
Before I saw them last week, I was a bit stressed about the whole thing. The requests my mother had seemed rather impractical, and although I expected the rocky horror music to be easy to organise - and maybe Riff Raff - the Frank 'n Furter character seemed a bit unrealistic.
When we met with them, we listed our basic requirements :
- Guests to be greeted by Riff Raff character
- Rocky Horror "I'm going home" track playing as we entered
- A Celebrant to carry out the ceremony
- Half way through, a man dressed as Frank 'n Furter (basque, fishnets, suspenders, makeup) dancing and miming to "Sweet Transvestite"
- Timewarp after the curtain closed
- A sign language interpreter who could carry out sign language through the ceremony.
So perhaps a little non-conventional.......
And they excelled.
Riff Raff character opened the doors from the inside and invited us in to my mothers ceremony - and told us (in character) that it might be a little unusual.
The sign language interpreter was dressed as a character from Rocky Horror.
The celebrant was excellent - he started off almost as a story of how my "poor innocent" mother found herself at a theatre one day and discovered the strange spectacle of Rocky Horror. He moved on to a more serious description, but with plenty of humour - before returning to Rocky Horror and linking to....
The entrance of Frank 'n Furter, who was superb. Dressed in the right outfit, played the part very well and didn't just mime, but did the performance to a backing track. Before we got there, I mentioned to my girlfriend that it might be odd because I'd played that track back a few nights ago and there was an interruption to the song where the Brad character was speaking - and I wasn't sure how that would work. But in fact, he had created a small ad-lib part covering that bit where he referred specifically to my mum by name.
Time warp at the end, which a few people even danced to. I'm not sure people usually take photos at funerals, but plenty of people did. All in all a success, and something my mum would have loved.
People say funerals are expensive - and before this I'd have agreed - but A C Towner earned every penny. I felt completely reassured after my meeting with them, and the end result was better than I'd hoped for.
A mention to the Harrow Pub on the Ridge to, where we had the wake ("Funeral Reception"). Well organised, with a good mix of snack food / sandwiches - and the memorial table where people could add photos and objects which reminded us of her was a great idea.
Although it's a strange thing to say in the circumstances - the day was a huge success. I was happy to see such a mix of people there too - it's clear my mother touched a lot of lives.
