Dear all,

Just got a 97 Chimaera 4.0.

Very happy with it - but it hasn't budged for best part of a year and I want to compile a "to do" list.

I am NOT mechanically minded so I run out of ideas after:

1. New tyres
2. Change all fluids
3. New wipers

It starts first time from cold and runs very nicely.

Any other obvious or non obvious things I should have checked?

Its due an MOT in six weeks but I want to be safe and legal in the meantime.

And I don't just want to take it in somewhere and give them a blank cheque.

Thanks in anticipation.

Check the fuel lines as these are known to corrode and fail even with regular use.

Why new tyres? Are they badly worn or very old as standing for a year as long as properly inflated is not much of a reason to change them
Fluid change yes.

A year isn't all that long. If it runs nicely you are a winner. Drive it about and watch for leaks and things sticking and get some new petrol in there.
Otherwise, just the regular service. It is due one.

No need to change things like tyres and wipers for the sake of it.

Check the levels (oil, water, brake fluid) and the lights, then the best thing you can do is tell us where you live.

Then we can recommend you to a TVR specialist, which WON'T cost you a fortune, but WILL give you someone who knows and loves TVRs.

Take him (not being sexist, just unlikely to be a "her") the car as soon as possible, ask him to check it over there and then for anything dangerous or car-threatening. Book it in for an annual service, which is due anyway, and ask him to MOT it - no point in waiting a few weeks to save £5 worth of old ticket, better to know if it planning on killing you.

Then enjoy the summer driving

I agree, this is the most important thing to check, especially the rubber ones in the engine bay just below the bonnet latch.
