My 993 c2s is running sans-cat and has bypass pipes welded on back boxes.
It sounds like thunder and you can barely hear the v12v next to it...

So thinking as to what to do to make it sound like a spitfire... It has a british v12 at the front, right?

They are built in Cologne, innit?!

Otherwise, don't Quicksilver do a backbox for the V12V? Lots of noise, but not necessarily any more performance.

I used to have a Supersprint superlight race backbox on my CSL. This not only saved lots of weight (thereby giving a performance increase of sorts) but also improved/increased the sound considerably. Looking at the Supersprint website, it looks they are developing a system for the 4.3 V8V. Maybe you could contact them and offer your car up as a test mule for a V12V system?

Drive it faster! Or take it to Bamford Rose who will liberate 60BHP and tinker with the decibels.

Just pull fuse 15. Job done.

Fuse 15 replaced fuse 22 (i.e. to keep the exhaust valve open permanently).

Your exhaust has bypass valves to pass EU drive-by noise regs. The bypass valves are open at idle and close between 1500-4000 rpm, at which point they open again allowing the exhaust to be heard!

Removing that fuse, which has no detrimental effect on running, will keep them open from idle to max revs. Makes all the noise, all the time, but no louder than standard, obviously!

Many of us have a bypass switch fitted which allows you to manually open and close the valves, useful for police attention, passing horses or cyclists or driving early morning. Also makes boring motorway driving more relaxing!

Bamford Rose will fit one for free if you're up there, operated by a little button on your steering column.

I assume you simply want to hear more of that wonderful V12 inside the car, it is very loud at full chat outside as standard. Obviously free flow cats and a sports exhaust will increase things to VERY loud, but first try simply taking out the rear parcel shelf, sounds silly but it will transform the volume inside the car. By the way it should still be fuse 22 if it is a 2010my, the fuse changed near the 11my... Of course the Sport button also opens the valve earlier !
Let me know what you think with the shelf out smile

Sports backbox just removes the silencing; free flow cats do give a bit more noise as they're less restrictive yes

Manifolds, cats and standard backbox can be as loud as you want, or quieter if you desire. Noise can be tailored using resonators so it doesn't have to be VERY loud unless you want it to be smile

Eric, 200 cell cats would be a first step, but for the whole noise and power experience have Bamford rose replace the exhaust manifolds also. You will get all the noise you desire plus a bonus feature of 60bhp yes

Cats are a 30 min job and therefore a drive in / out solution

Ah yes, would be useful for passing cyclists to make it a bit louder as you fly past them.

tyvm..

How much for just the cats?
How much for the full on?

And with regards to the exhaust valves closing at 1500-4000rpm....... Is this the case in both 'normal' and 'sport' mode?

cats only typically £1k +/- £250. BR's are I think, £1k plus VAT, incl fitting

full on is 'a lot' -that's not a comment on 'value', just to point out it's a very different price bracket, particularly in V12, as by definition the manifolds become much more complex than on V8. You'll have to speak to BR for price

sports mode drops the point at which the revs open by very approx. 1k revs

fuse 15 pulled opens across the range regardless of mode, meaning sports just affects throttle response

most aftermarket backboxes don't have valves so make the presence of fuse 15/22 or a switch for same irrelevant

I'm pretty sure my other half would be happier if you didn't do things like that. She has been knocked off and intimidated often enough on her bike, thanks.

Is it only on the V12s that the cats can be fitted in isolation? I'm sure I asked Mike about having cats only done on my V8 and he said it is best to do the manifolds too as they mate better when fitted.

Always better to have the manifolds as well for obvious performance reasons, but no reason that 200 cell catalysts can't be done in isolation...

You know you want to yes
