Rear Exhaust Bracket Snapped

Just having a look round my S2, noticed the rear exhaust bracket has snapped, leaving the almost entire length of pipe dangling. Removed the bolts holding the rubber bush, surprisingly easily, and found just a 10mm Tek bolt into the fuel tank hanging frame, was all that it was held on with, is this the norm ? Seems a bit feeble, anyone got more substantial bracketry?

Not sure what a "Tek bolt" is (like a rivet nut ?) but sounds about right, I have a single 10mm nut welded to the tank frame.




The two mounts further along take most of the weight, that single bolt at the back just stops the end dangling

Tek bolt ( trade name ), 10mm head selftapper thread with a drill bit point.
Ok will go with that once I have fabricated a new bracket. Just that the rubber bush, looks to be big enough for an engine mount, then this tiny bolt driven into the tank carrier.

Bracket repaired, chap at work is a whizz with the welder.
Lovely neat job, will paint and refit after I clean up and paint the tank frame,
Cant be havin a danglin end... Ohh Errr Missus.
It may be the beginning of a body lift and paint the chassis, depends on the weather, if it improves I need to drive it.

Just wondered, you do have mountings at either side of the silencer don't you? If you do not have them, then the load on the rear mount would be far too much. On the S1 there is a piece of 1/8th plate with a hole in it welded in the centre of the frame. A bracket bolts to that to carry the rubber mountings which are held between the exhaust and the bracket by a 6mm dia bolt.

Yes there is a bracket type arrangement at the centre box, so not the whole weight on this tiny "self tapper" but comparing the size of the rubber bush mounting and the bolts through it I was surprised by the tiny fixing to the fuel tank carrier frame, seems a lot for it to do, and as the previous owner was all into his lightening the car, I thought he may have tried any trick to achieve this.
Happy to learn this is the "Norm" so will refit as is, until I get the Stainless system to fit. MMMMMMMmmmm. !
