First got into her after seeing her on Jools Holland a few years back and then after seeing her at Glastonbury (albeit on TV) was blown away by her performance...can't wait for her to play the UK again, will defintely be getting myself a ticket...any other fans on here?

Yeah, does sound similar - as for killer songs, I like the fact that she isn't pandering to typical commercial sounding stuff that she could so easily have done, same goes for the image.

Thanks for the heads up, I'd love to be at that Brixton Academy gig. I really enjoyed Archandroid and Electric Lady is even better. Her performance on Jools Holland last year surpassed her previous appearances. She is a true show(wo)man in the Prince/James Brown league.
In fact with Prince setting up camp in London for the foreseeable, it would be amazing to see him join her on stage (or vice versa).

Went to the Birmingham gig last night, was an excellent show! The venue was tiny (The Institute) and much as I love the smaller venues, I couldn't help but think she needed somewhere much bigger to play. Such an energetic and absolutely flawless performance. Really enjoyed it....only ruined by the sea of mobile phone screens throughout the whole show. Doesn't anyone go to actually watch a live performance anymore? Or are they happy watching it through their mobile phone?! Piss started to seriously steam when the stupid cow in front of me got her ipad out and started filming it, holding it up right in my field of view...
Wow, just wow! I went to the Brixton Academy show on friday night and I'm still buzzing about just how good Janelle Monae and her fantastic band were!! It has straightaway gone into my top 3 gigs of all time and I'm struggling to think of reasons as to why it shouldn't be number 1. He vocals, with such an incredible range, were flawless throughout, the band are tight as a drum and the whole Janelle/Cindy Mayweather performance aspect is just splendid fun.
It will be a crime if she does not become one of the biggest stars in the world.

Yes, bloke in an army helmet, that's him. As I said, the guy had an opinion that he was James Brown incarnate, with lots of count offs that were out of time with the bands cues! Also had a speaking accent that varied from North London to Philidelphia in the same sentence - odd!Yeah I thought the accent was strange. Could've sworn when he first came on stage that he was English, but then gradually became more American throughout the show! To start with I thought he was a bit run-of-the-mill and I wasn't too interested, but he did get better and I ended up quite enjoying it, even though that's not really my kind of music. He worked the crowd pretty well.
Yet when he's on it, he's great. I've read a little about him & he is by his own admission, a bit...difficult.
