I'm going to put a poll on paint issues together so I need a list of issues to stick in it wink
What do you think they are?

None!
I will at some stage want to sell the car. The last thing I need and probably others is an internet poll making out all Gaydon Astons have paint issues.

Even though most of them do.

Mikey, thanks for at least asking the question regarding the paintwork issues.

I personally do not see the difference in asking owners about this as opposed the previous poll about clutch life.
After all a clutch is a consumable item that by its function will wear.
Paintwork is not a consumable item

And for everyone who is paranoid our cars will be worthless after this then it should be noted that this is discussed regularly here on this forum and it is also discussed in Grants excellent book about the Gaydon produced cars.

I will start this off then

Paint bubbles at door handles
Paint bubbles at the bottom of the doors
Paint flaking off door mirror mounts

Umm, it's just little bits of bubbling due to poor prep. Might you be overdramatising a touch..? biglaugh

No issues at all on my MY2006.

Paint from the factory is badly marked. On almost every Aston. I don't know how they sign off cars there.

On my car as well as many other brand new cars i saw at dealers. This is just common.

I had my car paint corrected and protected by Rob at supercar detailing in Kent. The car is now as it should be: perfect. No swirles or any other unwanted 'niggles'.

Secondly, my car's bonner was bubbling at one extremity from new. Now rectified under warranty at Works.

Last but not least, the paint is VERY vulnerable to stonechips..

Considering the waffle that they tell you about the quality of the paint before you buy the car, the quality is, indeed, atrocious.

All four of the Gaydon cars I've had have needed sorting out (by a combination of AM and a detailer).

A poor show indeed.

Yeti, that's great that you paintwork is fine. I am pleased for you.
My car is a 2007 and has also got issues with other areas on it, rear parking sensors paint flaking, rear meshes adjacent to the sensors corroding! Chrome side strakes pitting
It's all common stuff discussed here on a regular basis
Overdramatising, no just expected a bit better quality from an Aston Martin.
To fix it I am expecting an estimate from an AM approved bodyshop which will be well into four figures

  • sanding marks on various panels.
  • missing paint on areas where things have been fitted (tail lights etc)
  • polish left on trim and in gaps.
  • paint very thin on edges of certain panels/door handles
  • very swirly/scratched
  • poor alignment on the tail lights on many cars
  • door/bonnet rubber sticking out over the panel when closed

Paddy, as a detailer, how common are the issues you've listed?

Hi Graham,

Yup I'm home. It was a horrible journey back. Not because of the traffic, but because of my neck.

Really happy with the way the v12vr came up though. Would you mind if I put the pic you sent me in the 22ple thread?

Those issues are common on many cars, the sanding marks and swirly paint being the worst offender. I asked works service once about it and they said that they can't guarantee 100% on every car produced!!

I would say every car has at least one or two of the issues highlighted, though swirls etc and be down to improper washing.

Beoon, please add to your first item on your list.....& keyhole surround.

Btw, yeti is pulling your leg.

The paintwork is also a good advert for the contrasting cf everywhere ie the less paintwork the less issues.

I'm ok with a poll on anything that educates me on what to look out for at the point of purchase as I went in to the last one completely blind.

Tbh, though, I'll probably just take Mikey and Lunablack with me next time biggrin

Is it?

Paddy, can you comment? Stone chips are no worse on my Aston than any other car I have owned.

It's the way they're driven quite often yes

I'd have no stone chips if I didn't do convoyed runs...

This is a very important comment in the context of this thread yes

Ferrari paintwork is rumoured to be appalling with most new cars requiring correction.

The bubbling paint around the door handles etc... That is unique to AML and is shameful.

Beoon, not gloating at all, feel for you in that situation, just thought your 'die on your feet' comment was a bit dramatic for a topic on paint smile
