Tooth removed

Hi guys, had a tooth removed Thursday pm, one of the big buggers nr back of mouth.

How long can I expect it too keep hurting, Friday was just normal pain, few anadin and jobs a good un.

Skip forward to today and its really throbbing now, the cavity seems to have stopped bleeding but has turned brown.

I'm thinking it may have become infected, is that a job for dentist or doctor.

Ooh, dear, does not sound good.

I had two molars either side of my lower jaw break up, and one copped a bit of an infection because of it.

I went to my ( admittedly fantastic private dentist ) and he removed the teeth each side, and cut the roots. So probably the same procedure as you've had.

However, one the anaesthetic had worn off, I only had a slightly uncomfortable ache later the same day - which wasn't even bad enough to take painkillers for.

And within a day or two, the gums had healed up perfectly, and it was like nothing had happened - no pain, no nothing.



So - yes, I would say you've definitely got a problem - and it does sound like an infection.

Rinse your mouth with salt in tepid water on a regular basis until healed up.

A job for your dentist. It may be what is called a dry socket. A recognised complication of an extraction. Usually starts 2-4 days after an extraction.

Your dentist will be able to sort it out for you.

Doctors don't deal with dental issues, so +1 for a visit to your Dentist .

Dentists can prescribe antibiotics, so definitely the person to go to.

I've had both wisdom teeth out.

The first was awful, my face was all swollen and it took ages to heal, I was in pain for a long time. The 2nd one was fine and didn't really hurt too much.

If you're worried, see you dentist, try the warm water and salt rinse too.

Suffered a dry socket a few months ago , the pain was worse than the original toothache I suffered .

Got an emergency appointment with the dentist and they filled the hole with a paste type substance and within a few minutes got relief .

Had to attempt not to eat or drink for a few hours afterwards , and after that no issues

The throbbing is infection. Hopefully, you've got it sorted by now. If not, I have a brand new hack saw and can fit in a headectomy this afternoon.

After a tooth removal i was told i had a dry socket as i was in so much pain. Turns out the dentist had left a "shard" of broken tooth in there!

Just back from dentists, as everybody thought, I have a dry socket.

He gave it a clear out, packed some foul tasting gooh in it and sent me on my way, says it will just dissolve itself in approx 4 days, christ it tastes rough.
