Repair a Charge Cooler

I've just bought a lotus Carlton, car is outstanding except for the charge cooler leaking water into the charge air, so the previous owner has drained the system and disconnected the water pump.
I am looking to source a new cooler,will cost me 1500 pound with carriage and duty, but I can get one off high quality work done cheap, so if I break the cooler open I have no problem in getting it alloy welded and can get the welds tested, but can my radiator man repair the heat exchanger.
I don't see why not the water pressure can't be high, and the high pressure charge will be trying to compress the alloy against the incompressible liquid coolant.
Thoughts appreciated.
