So, it is that time of year again! For some odd reason, the current insurer is no longer interested in covering TVR's (well, cars with a modified suspension..odd, but nevermind), so the hunt is on!

Now, my Chimaera is my only car, I really have no need of another car. I do have access to a 2nd car though, but only as a named driver, and only infrequently. Also, I commute to work via Bus/Train etc.

So, which policy do I go for? A comprehensive policy that accrues NCB, or a classic policy and lose the NCB I have? A small spanner is that a "standard" policy is cheaper from a regular insurer than a specialist (by around £200), but a classic policy is somewhat cheaper still. Obviously, with a regular insurer I would lack agreed value, preferred repairer, track day and potentially Euro cover. Is that extra worth £200?

I suspect rather that if I let my NCB lapse, next year will be more expensive still, but is that worth it? Decisions!

What would you do, or what have you done?

They are the ones that really prompted the question. wink

Their "standard" policy is £200 more than a regular insurer, but the classic policy is over £200 less than a regular insurer, but obviously without NCB etc.

AFAIK classic insurance requires that the car is not your main everyday car, but a 2nd car. It may be that some insurers don't insist on this.

Certainly the few quotes I've had, they don't seem to mind. I've been up front that it is my only car (albeit only really used at weekends).

I have just changed to Classic Line, competetive etc etc. But I had a query about NCB and that they would need a copy/proof of my NCB (confusion whether it was 7 years or 9). They said - doesnt matter. With that particular policy, the NCB makes no difference to the premium!
