Hi guys

Ive tried using the search, but its not giving any results.

Anyway. for the first time ever ive noticed that the mat in the passenger footwell was a bit damp, i pulled it up and the carpet underneath was a bit damp too but not as much as the matt.

Where could this be coming in from, floor? if so why would the mat feel more wet than the carpet underneath.

Ive check the drains on the front clam and the main loom grommet all seem fine.

Window seal seems fine and if it was leaking there I would expect the door or seats to be wet.

Lastly, is the carpet stuck straight to the rivoted sheet metal that you can see under the car? so i assume there isnt another skin in between?

just a bit concerned with all the fuses near there.

Cheers
Steve

On the passenger side it could be condensation from the AC connections dripping down or ingress from floor to chassis leaks behind the front wheel arch. Have you been out in the rain recently? The carpet is glued directly to the floor sheet as you suspect.

Hi rob

yep Its been in the rain. so suspect its the floor, but still cant work out why the top of the mat is wetter than the carpet underneath? nothing is wet above the area it is damp.

Maybe it's leaking from a wheel arch/bulkhead to chassis rather then floor to chassis?

I agree it could be this. I left mine outside overnight during heavy rain only to be greeted with damp carpets the day after.

thanks for the pointers guys. If it were the bulkhead, would it not be running down by the fuses or evidence of water there?

Also check the heater pipe connections at the box.

well i definately think its time for a floor reseal. Its the first time its been in the wet in all these years, so driving back from the new forrest this afternoon it was chucking it down, when i got home the drivers carpet between the seat and sill was sodden with water.

Its pretty common for water to come through the bulkhead. Ie it runs down the windscreen and seeps in.

Check around heater matrix

Hi Jbliss

Where can you get to the heater matrix, is it under the black angular box in the front clam or is it under the dash?

As said, try pipes/valve first (easy access under/behind radio and fuse panels)
before shearing your knuckles to the bone getting at the matrix smile

If you look at the fuse box in the passenger footwell, its to the right of that, where the pipes go in.

Have someone get a hose onto the windscreen and lay in the footwell and see where it comes in.

Heater pipes also prone to dripping

Mine was leaking behind the radio from the coolant pipes, you need to get on your back and look up there and feel around for any moisture.
