Finding a compatible lens

Have a friend of mine who owns an old sony alpha A100 DSLR which he bought used. His birthday coming up so I am toyiing with the idea of just buying him one of those cheap prime lenses as a little gift. 50mm prime lens I suppose. He only has the normal kit lens.

Only thing is I know nothing about what lenses would be compatible with this camera, or where to to find this info out. Can anyone help me out with this?
Also, apart from ebay I've no idea where else I could possibly look for one (new or used, though leaning towards used).

I thought all the Sony lenses as well as Minolta AF lenses would be compatible but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure somebody can confirm it.

I borrowed his for a while so if I am to buy a DSLR it will most certainly be for me first.
I'm drawn towards a fuji X100s, a mid-range nikon or the new canon 100D, but that's for another topic.

Aye sony alpha mount or Minolta af ether will do.

searchable database of just about every A-mount lens produced since 1985. The A100, like all the Sony DSLRs, has a body motor so it can drive old Minolta AF lenses (and Sigma / Tamron / Tokina A-mount glass as well).

Some of the old Minolta lenses outperform their price point by a fair bit - the 50/1.7 and the 70-210/4, for example.
