Hello all
on the way back from the fastlane my wedge started to misbehave.
onto my mates ramp this afternoon, i need the rear wheel bearings and bushes replaced on the front of the trailing arm.
Its a 1982 fhc 280i.
Any recommendations on sourcing them? Dont want to get random from the bay would prefer quality, esp on the bushes (poly).

Poly does not equal quality, also I don't think anyone makes the trailing arm pivot bush in polyurethane.

Hi Marcus..Get the trailing arm mounts/bushes form RT but go through his online ordering service or you will end up paying an extra 30 sobs if you phone him to order..Also you might want to order two as its best to replace both bearings, trailing arm mounts/Bushes and possibly the pins as well as they can become stuck in the mount and take hour's of heat and a considerable amount of a 10 ton press..As mine did..Dont get the wheel bearing from RT as for some reason i bought them from him and they were wrong!..Also a lot of care needs to be taken when fitting the bearings..Make sure who ever does it has a torque wrench of good making and can cover the 234lbs of torque needed to undo and tighten the hub nut and have a 38mm socket..It's easy to naff up the fitting of either bearings and hub nut..You might also need to check and adjust the geo..Unfortunately this part of repair is expensive but essential..

Rear wheel bearings:

RT online:

Unfortunately the mounts have been taken off this page so you will pay more due to postage..Just make sure you are sitting down!...Ziga

There is also these guys..

PS: Sorry Ian but there are these that have been used...Although not cheap!..Im not sure i would use poly unless mine get the arsh torn out of them by the extra power induced by the blower..eek

No need to apologise to me fella biggrin

The trouble (or one of them) with poly is that it will distort to a point but then can't recover. I would think that most people who run high-power vehicles accept that certain components become consumable, or more consumable than on other cars, shall we say. Bearings, bushes, UJs, brakes, gearboxes... the trade-off is how high you can wave your willy compared to the next guy, I guess.

Hi all,

Appreciate what you say Wedgie and have gone against the poly route, i suppose they are consumables and i would rather have them replaced regularly than thinking cause it's a poly it doesn't need it!
Called RT, the bush will take 2 weeks to get, they are the only people that do them or so i was told.

Called ML Performance, I'll get the bush and bearing kit delivered on Monday, cheaper than RT too. Odd that!

Hi Marcus...I would anticipate that the pins will need changing also, it's not a good scenario if once the trailing arms are off and the pins are knackered!..strange how RT say's he is the only person who can get the bushes and pins when ML performance sell them also??....Ziga
