After 14 weeks the time finally arrived yesterday. Got to pick up my new M3 coupe last night.
First M3 I have owned and so far I am one very happy bunny. Only one sticking point is that its going back to the dealers tonight as when I opened the bonnet it then wouldn't shut properly at one side, think the catch is sticking. The offer of having the wheels resprayed at cost was their come back at trying to keep a 100% customer satisfactory rating - they do like their customer surveys don't they.

Anyway it's going to be a long 1130 miles until I can really see what the engine is like.

PS nice to meet you guys and I hope the tt in the 5 series diesel who insisted on undertaking everyone on the M621 this morning doesn't also own an M.

I fixed the bonnet issue this morning after looking on google. It is the rubber stopper - whichever side is the problem just twist the stopper and goes lower and allows the bonnet to close properly.

The bonnets are very easily twisted be very careful when closing it.... I find droping it from 6 inchs or so from the middle is best way to close it... - also it's a real bugger trying to get each side the right height....

Well done! Must be exciting...

Why did the wheels need respraying? Did you simply just want them a different colour?

Just want them anthracite rather than silver.

Undertaking is good. It's motorway arbitrage. To explain: if everyone moved over once they'd overtaken someone, then it wouldn't be possible to undertake them. So, by definition, if someone undertook you, you were in the wrong lane.

Hope you enjoy your V8 monster, awesome grand tourer.

Post some pics when you get the wheels done thumbup

You're right about the satisfaction surveys....dealers quarterly bonus payments have a performance element in terms of customer satisfaction I believe.

Great news OP enjoy your new beast & my bonnet also has the same issue I really have to slam it on the right hand side or it doesn't shut properly.

Except, if someone 'undertook' him, he'd be dead.

Exactly the same as mine was. Had it 'adjusted' at my local dealership yesterday and both sides now engage as you'd expect.
I asked what they adjusted, but they aren't the most helpful bunch at times and all I got was 'all is fine now that we have spent time on it'

I'm honored ...... lol

That must be why it's illegal in England!

Congrats mate! I know what the feeling is like picking up a brand spanking M3, had mine about 7 weeks now and love it to bits!!! Pressing the "M" button on my way back from the running service reassured me I had made the right decision to get one. I had 2 x E36 M3's 9/10 years ago but this V8 and the DCT is just stunning!!! What colour/spec have you gone for? Heres mine on delivery day: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=126...

Have you visited M3Cutters?

Anyway have fun mate thumbup

I had the same issue on collection day with my bonnet, they popped it in the workshop for literally 2 minutes. Tweaked something and it's been fine ever since. Mine is in right now for it's running-in service, get it back tomorrow ahead of doing Dream Rides at Leeds Castle on Saturday.

Enjoy your car mate, they are awesome machines smile

Congratulations mate. It's a lovely feeling, I think the process of running it in only adds to the excitement / drama too.

I thought it was plenty quick enough up to 5.5k revs when travelling along twisty A roads. Then had the running in service this week and its so much fun extending it through the revs.

I was worried about it being a big heavy car - after having a z4 coupe - but it seems the harder you drive, the smaller, lighter and more nimble the car feels. Love the way it just clings onto corners on dual carriageways etc.

Enjoy!
