Replacing a cdr-23 headunit with another porsche oem headuni

Hi,
I thought it might be possbile to add aux in to the cdr-23, but after many hours of googleing this doesnt seem possible - people recommend burning audio to a cd, or fm transmittor. Which I guess is a last resort.
Is it possible to replace the cdr-23 with another oem porsche headunit that has aux in? if so which one? I want oem look, i do not want aftermarket.

unless your car is post 2002 with bose, it should be fairly straight forward.
You may need to run an ignition feed from the fusebox, but any decent electrician should be able to do that for you.
As for which unit, if you can find a lightly used becker, theyre normally very similiar in design.

I'm not sure there are any other single DIN MOST bus headunits that would work. Is there a particular model you've seen?
I also have a 2003 year 996 with CDR-23 and I spent ages looking for a way to get bluetooth streaming audio while keeping an OEM looking headunit. I gave up in the end and just use an iTrip FM transmitter with my iPhone.
Check out the Dension Gateway 500 (although expensive and most features intended for Porsche PCM, I think).

Look out for a used Becker Cascade or Indianapolis Pro on ebay, the Indianapolis model looks very OEM, but has the benefit of bluetooth and sat nav. There is also the optional iPod connection kit that replaces the cd changer that Becker produced for these units, it's a black box with a 30 pin dock connector on.

I have a cascade that I bought from someone on this forum. The satnav is not great and temperamental. They are very expensive if and when they come up for sale.I actually use it in my r 107 merc sl rather than the 993 (I have a lovely understated Pioneer in that).
In my old r107 sl, I had another Becker: the indianapolis. This was nice and simple and worked well. You'd be lucky to get one below 3-400 pounds though. Then you must find the specific IPOD link. Which is at least 100-150 quids.
Becker headunits are not very powerfull when compared to modern headunits from other brands (my pioneer is pre-amplified and gives very decent sound), meaning you need an separate amp in addition.
I studied that route carefully as well in the past. All a bit of a pain really.
Just for comparative pricing purposes as above I just installed a Pioneer appradio. It connects to your iphone/android handset and I can use the free sat nav apps which work great on the larger screen, ipod controlled from the screen etc. If you really wanted to you can get a whole bunch of other apps up on the screen. £200 plus a lead plus a £29 fitting kit. I have only used the free apps.
thanks for the replys - i dont really like after market head units in porsche, i dont know why, in other cars it's fine, but something about the porsche, and the oem headunit just looks so good (Even if it doesnt function like modern ones).

If you go for the Becker you don't need the official iPod cable they offer, you can find a basic aux style phono lead with the correct block connector on it also on ebay.
Also check on the illumination colour as they made several models, blue, red and amber from memory. Amber matches the OEM unit.
Mine was an exact swap for the Porsche Traffic Pro, so didn't need to change any connectors or pin outs as the gps aerial was already installed under the alarm light unit on the dash. I only needed to run the mic for the bluetooth handsfree.

Works fine for me everywhere except in London. Even sends track name over RDS so you see it displayed on the dashboard (a bit hit and miss though).
One nice thing about not having a wire is that it's easy to pick up the phone and get Siri to play a certain album.
