I don't believe they do. Same goes for baguettes nowadays - they used to be big, but now they are all about half the diameter they used to be. Skinny little things that can hardly take any fillings.

Only solution is to make your own... or perhaps go to a proper bakers shop?

Im a fan of hotdogs, but between the buns being crap and having to be careful not to buy hotdog sausages made from turkey or chicken, ive stopped bothering.

Bakers oven (if it still exists) used to do nice buns for hot dogs.

Steamed is the way.

If I fancy shaking things up, I'll spread butter on the bread and toast them in a hot frying pan for a bit. Crazy, I know.

when these came out last year I creamed myself as I thought they'd be perfect but they are actually ste.

Because a real French style baguette should be thin and go stale and dry by about lunch time having been purchased for breakfast.

So I'm not alone with the baguette thing. The local sandwich shop used to have normal ones, now they're so bloody skinny and mainly crust they just snap and are hardly filled.

Why is it though if you buy a baguette in France, the next day its soft (almost soggy), but the baguettes you buy over here go rock hard overnight?

In my experience it is the other way round. The bread we buy from the boulangerie is simply stunning as long as you eat it that day. Next day you could peg a tent down with it.
