I've been told the Porsche motorsport department no longer have a supplier for the motorsport diff plates to go into a 996 GT3. Is there anywhere else they could be sourced from, other than Porsche themselves?

If not, are there any other viable alternatives to the motorsport diff plates? Obviously fitting the new standard ones would be a total waste of money, if they're going to be useless again after a couple of track days.

Cheers all smile

Cheers for that. Coincidentally that's who Ken at 9E is contacting for us at the moment. smile

Do you have any experience with Guard?

Are you saying that there is no longer a Motorsport diff option for 996 GT3s? Or is this just a temporary supply issue?

Call Mike at Sports and Classic. He got a Motorsport diff pack for my GT3 yesterday. Not sure where from.

I looked into Guard, and they are highly recommended. Only slight issue was that they really like to build the diff pack to your exact diff part measurements. This meant taking out the diff, measuring the parts, sending the dimensions to Guard, who then build you an exact spec diff pack, and ship it over to you to fit back into your car. Sounds great, and will work amazingly well, but is time consuming for you and your workshop as they have the car on the ramp for a few days with the diff out.

It's more likely that Porsche has stopped buying the plates; the supplier will still be in existence.

Wouldn't be surprised if Guard or the are the OE manufacturer.

Guard are not the manufacturer of the porsche motorsport plates but they have a diff product (and gear product) that is excellent.

FWIW, given that every Cup uses a diff and they need rebuilt frequently i find it hard to believe that motorsport have no more parts available. Im not up on what parts the street upgraders use but assume its the plates from the early 996 Cup?
The cars from 2003 used more plates inside the diff with 45/65 locking and huge preload and this carries forward to today.

It may well be that porsche have dropped support for the early diff style since literally no one uses these anymore (just as they also dont run the early gear ratios).
theres also the other possibility (and more likely) that the part number has simply superseded. While dealers can order parts via the system if they have a valid part number, they cannot search for parts and any superseded numbers leave them in an NLA dead end. Porsche motorsport have their own parts system and parts department for race parts/customers. You need a Cup and an account with them to access this.

Porsche motorsport even contacted German - no supplier so only the stock available already issued. Mike (S&C) was luckly to find a set at an OPC. We have a motorsport account btw.

Well Ken managed to sort something out with Guard within a few hours of my OP, and some guard plates will be arriving in 3 days - top job. Good to hear that you lot rate them so well, I'm looking forward to seeing an improvement once they're on.

Excellent! So they didn't want to know the diff dimensions first? That makes it a lot easier.

How did the price compare to the Motorsport parts?

I think 9E or Guard must have blueprints of the standard '6 GT3 diff size now, as it was sorted pretty much straight away. We're discussing pricing this weekend when we drop the car off to have the work done, so I don't know all the details just yet. smile

Cheers for the PM back btw, much appreciated.

No problem!

Yes they have the generic sizing, and the Motorsport Cup pack must be built to accommodate this and it's range of tolerance (i.e. one size fits all), but Matt at Guard gave me the impression they really like to get the exact size of the mating parts in the diff so they can build a proper pukka plate pack. They really do sound like a class outfit. Let us know how you get on with it.

911p you have an email. You have choice of both now.

ALL - not sure what went wrong but Motorsport sent me an email to say they are available now. Think as fioran0 stated they were looking t the old 996 cup plates and not the 997 ones. Part number in case any of you need them is 9973329859a.

Does that mean your contact and ordering is through Reading if "motorsport" had to contact Germany? That explains a lot. They have less than zero info on anything motorsport related there at all.
