Glass ban?

Does anyone with their ear close to LM know if there is a (futile) glass ban again this year?

" Last week's meeting with the ACO went very well.

Following your comments we talked with them about:

Glass bottles/Alcohol in the circuit/campsites: As in previous years, glass bottle are not permitted into the circuit. They are allowed into the campsites, BUT there are complications.

Campsites such as Maison Blanche, Tertre Rouge and Houx are, effectively, within the general viewing areas of the circuit. You should be able to take glass bottles and alcohol onto these sites. Although with the large number of ACO marshals and SPI security agents, there may well be inconsistencies in how this is applied.

The ACO are aware of this and have asked us to let them know about any problems our customers encounter this year."


So they are allowed in campsites, unless an overactive guard at the gate decides they are not. I am not taking any risks and stick to cans, and put my bottles of special stuff deep down in my luggage.

Certainly we had no issues on Houx last year with bottles.

I did! The gestapo at the gate searched my car quite thoroughly (but not thoroughly enough) on the sunday when I arrived. And later in the week they were complaining about the amount of cans of beer I had with me. (only a mere 96 50cc cans). Stupid fvcks!

Houx IS inside the ticket area, see my quote from Brian from 1st tickets, and I DID get searched last year, as well as two years ago.

Yes it is.. You have to show your GE ticket to get into the campsite as well as your camping pass

Never had any issues at MB ourselves, apparently there was a couple of years ago on the tuesday/wednesday before the security chaps managed to see sense.

Never had problems on MB to date touch wood. We will do our big shop on Thurs so can do a trial run on Weds. We shall be sitting outside the entrance drinking if this happens

I will just do the same this year as previous years, take the spare wheel out, leave it at camp, and smuggle all my bottled booze in under the boot floor / spare wheel well when doing the carrefour run They never look there.

Its a pointless excerise anyway as by the wednesday when the bin lorries come round to empty the bins, all you can hear is the breaking of glass

I don't get it. What's wrong in camping in a field with 75,000 drunk people, in a nylon tent with thousands of gallons of beer and wine in breakable bottles, 100 lbs of fireworks, numerous gas bottles, 6 x cans of petrol, barbecues matches lighters fags cigars, dodgy French electric points and dry grass ? I don't get what all the fuss is about.

You forgot to mention that there are CARS SPEEDING for a whole 24 hours in very close proximity! How all the team members, corporate visitors and spectators don't ALL DIE every single year is beyond me.

last year on entry to Porsche curves viewing area we were checked and had to either dump glass bottles or drink it quickly before entry.
this year I'm taking a plastic 1 litre bottle with me so will fill the fker up with beer before I leave camp, there's a chance I might end up with flat beer but I'm willing to take the risk

Unfortunately security has always been tight at the Porsche Curves, checks have been made for the last three years . I understand that because of the high viewing position they are concerned that bottles could be thrown onto the track.

I understand that security will be the same this year. They will also be asking to see the G E tickets although technically you will already be in the circuit.
