-Are all Tivs hard to fill up with petrol? I've tried just about every orientation of the nozzle on my S2, but it's painstakingly slow to get the stuff in the tank.

Any suggestions? Anything wrong? or is it just me being an idiot

Pete, dumb question, I know, but have you got it all the way in? It took me a couple of month on my old Chimp to realise that I could waggle the nozzle around a bit and it would get a couple of inches deeper into the tank neck. That way the pumps' auto-shutoff didn't keep pestering me.

On my old Chimp and current Tuscan, hold the pump almost vertical and try to waggle the nozzle into the hole aiming to point it round towards the boot catch - if you see what I mean.

Hope this helps.

I have no idea about other models, but my Griff can be a pain at some pumps, it either keeps cutting, so I have to pour real slow, or it does not cut the pump and insteedI wash the back of the car in petrol, one of these days it may catch fire on the hot exhaust.

Tried most things, -the nozzle is all the way in (the plastic guard on the pump handle is flush with the bodywork). Tried the vertical trick, so the curve of the nozzle follows the filler tube -no joy there either.

The problem is with the auto shut-off. The filler tube just backs up with petrol. It does go in eventually, but at a slower rate than the pump on full throttle -wondered if there's a breather hole for the tank somewhere that may be partially blocked?

It currently takes about 5 minutes of filling to get £15 of unleaded in!

i think its a deliberate TVR design, so you get to pose just that little bit longer and the punters get to see the wonderful cars..... increasing desire....
increasing sales.

but insteed you end up p!ssing off the guy in the pump behind you, as you can see him turning visibly red as you are still filling up with petrol 5 minutes after he finished and paid.

Glad I'm no the only one who feels like an idiot sometimes, wrestling with the nozzle and swearing, while i can almost hear the blokes on the forecourt thinking "silly tart etc etc".

Sometimes it goes straight in easily (matron) and fills no trouble - BP, for some reason, tends to be best, other times it cuts out so often it hardly seems worth the efffort - and it feels like three fs worth, too. Optimax gives the most trouble, possibly because local Shell have installed new pumps - higher pressure, more likely to cut out? Actually if you draw the nozzle some of the way back out (oh stop it) that can work, but not every time. I could go on.....

The Tamora is great compared to the Chimaera I used to own. they have definitely addressed this issue, and the filler neck is a vertical pipe now, not some sepentine concoction.

On the Cerb I find you have to put the pump in along the line of the car and then turn 1/4 turn anti-clockwise to get it to drop fully in to the tank.

Also helps if you push the boot lid all the way up and drain out the pump (on the floor) before trying to put in tank (otherwise end up with what was left in the pump all around the boot.

Actually had one guy stop me from filling the tank the other day because he thought I was filling a plastic carry out in the boot (has to be taken out and put on floor). £44 convinced him that it wasn't a 1 gallon can for the lawnmower, eventually.

Duncan gots the right idea. Took me months of arsing around trying not to look like a bozo with my Chimp. Put it vertically in facing forwards so that the slope on the nozzle top plays up against the lid of the boot, wiggle a bit and oohhh...deep inside!

Bloody Fiat rubbish...;-)

All s's are the same and flippin awkward. The best position I have used (ooer missus) is with the pump inserted about 5 inches only with the bottom resting on the edge of the cap and the top up against the top of the inlet pipe and pointing slightly down and forwards. This way the fuelseems to flow down in a nice sort of vortex (much underused word).
Still have to take your time though.
