Tuna looks dodgy.

Just opened a can of John West tuna to have for lunch.

It's in brine, but there's a dark brown staining in the brine and the lid of the can. It washes off, and the tin looks normal. It's almost orangey in colour and feels slightly slimy.

Tins are well in date.

Never seen anything like it in a tin and I get through a fair bit.

Ok to eat?

This! I never go on looks alone. If food smells OK I eat it.

It could be a tin of escolar, not tuna.

Smells like tuna. I don't have a very good sense of smell.

It really is quite orangey.

And BSR - if someone can give me an explanation as to why its happened, then fine. There are knowledgeable types on PH.

If someone says "yeah just eat it" then obviously not.

It's fine, just some oxidation caused from a reaction between the metal and the brine, happens occasionally but it's nothing to worry about and doesn't affect the taste or the quality.

I have a really good tin opener actually, it's my own that I bring from home. I was that impressed with it, that I bought another one. So just in case I lose it while I'm out, I've always got a backup. As you open the tin it blunts the top of the can and the edge around the lid so it's not sharp. Which is very useful when you're me.

And it's going to get more expensive soon due to increased wholesale prices
