TZ30 fast track help needed

Quite literally!
Has anyone got a Panny TZ30 who can give me top tips for camera settings for taking motorsport pictures.
Next week I am at the Monaco GP and will be taking both my new-to-me TZ30 and my older TZ6 as a backup.
I would greatly appreciate any help for getting "that shot" with the TZ30
I already have 1 spare battery and can borrow the TZ6 battery too, and have the GPS turned off.

It has a slow-mo video setting (no sound) in the SCN menu and settings for sport. Can't say it's ever helped me though as my many "there is no dolphin in this shot" photos prove..
You will be better off selecting the multiple image "burst" shots which can take up to 10 shots (maybe more). When downloaded, the software then shows all and you can delete any you don't like or you can keep them all.

I do have a DSLR camera but didn't want to be lugging it around so haven't brought it with me.
Panning is Scene / Sports mode isn't it?
I'll pop burst mode on, that's a great idea.
I've set it up for spot metering as I figure any car shots will need it.
Good call on the no sound video though. I'll play with that now.

I've just been for a play at a fast road junction. I didn't really want to walk that far but I got a few "what are you looking at you pervert" kind of looks and decided I should move because my French isn't up to explaining what I was actually doing to Le Plod.
I can't find anything other than manually trigging AF Tracking which will automatically focus as you follow something.
Sports mode looks to just set a fast shutter speed.
AF Tracking might work but it's temperamental about whether it has got the object you want to follow or not.
It looks like the answer might be to set the camera to Sports, point where I will take the picture And set focus by half pressing the shutter release button, then pan with the car until it gets to the spot I focused on and take the shot.

The second part is a good technique (can also use manual focus) and half-pressing will help it to fire faster when you want it to (not the usual 'light fuse and retire'-type thing you get with compacts). However the usual idea behind panning fast moving objects is to make the background blurred. To do that you want a slower shutter speed, not the faster one that 'sports' will give you. Set one and experiment.This is the problem with accursed 'modes' - you don't actually know what they are doing to your camera. They seem to make it easier but what they actually do is get you further from the reality. All you need is the right shutter speed for the effect you want, and a good swing
Well all the practice and advice wasnt a lot of good today Simpo Two.
We were in the standing area alongside the first left hander at the harbour.
Or the other side of the fence from Saint Devote where Massa stuffed his car in practice this morning.
It was like sitting above the fast lane of the M1 trying to take photos through 2 wire fences.
Panning was impossible because the cars were under the wall below us. So I had the resort to pre focussing on the apex and timing the shot.
That didn't stop me taking hundreds of shots though
Tomorrow we are opposite the pits in T1 though. So we'll see how good that Zeiss tele lens and anti shake really is.
