Possibly a bit too much of a business question but.

Company is considering changing development practices to try and combat excessive complexity and the associated development costs.

One approach being considered is changing from asp.net, possibly to something like coldfusion mx. Does anyone have any experience of any alternatives to asp.net and how complexity can be minimised?

Alternatively, do people think that asp.net is not the problem and that its more likely to be our development style that creates such complexity? anyone know of any practices etc. that can be used to reduce complexity? already considering XP, but I personally dont believe that our company could stick to it - fixed price contracts, excessive stress etc.

Most people combat development complexity by just not doing it...

You buy in packages and components and just bolt them together. The only bit you end up having to maintain is the unique "glue" you created to join stuff up...

Its rarely the development environment that's the problem.

I should also say...software is always highly complex. Almost anything worthwhile is...

i'd stick with .net as it's a lot more flexible than coldfusion mx.
