06 RR Sport iPod integration options

Morning all

Picked up an 06 Sport a couple of weeks ago. The basic "aux" in connection for the iPod seems poor (you have to max the sound on the head unit to get half decent sound)

Are there any alternative solutions/suggestions I can look at? I have seen kits on the bay sold as OEM iPod kits (complete with iPod holder) but not sure how good they are.

Any advice would be appreciated

OEM aftermarket Ipod integration kit is made by Dension and ONLY available from Main Dealers - Dension will not supply it direct nor do they list it on their site

for the FFRR its about £340 inc VAT plus it takes about 2 hours to fit by main dealers

I put a Dension Ice Link in mine, it breaks into the aerial cable and plays through an fm channel. Way better than a transmitter type unit and comes with a cradle to hold and charge the iPod. Bought a Brodit bracket for the RRS to mount it on which clips on the right of the console in easy view from the driving seat. You need to manually track/playlist choose from the iPod itself but volume etc works off the steering wheel as normal.

Not an expensive way to sort it, bracket was about £15, the Dension was maybe double that off eBay. Not difficult to fit yourself, took about an hour. I use it for a Classic and a latest generation touch. Charges those fine.

to be honest that's a really cheap poor quality option - playing through an FM channel?

there is NO cheap option

get the Land Rover iPod integration kit - works superbly

why do people buy these type of cars and want to do something on the 'cheap'

get the correct 'kit' or don't bother?

Cheers GC. I agree, had FM modulator connections years ago. Don't want to go back there!

Looks like the OEM LR is the one to go for. Will have a scoot round to see if I can get one for less than a new one. Can all the tracks been viewed & selected via the head unit?

yes, full track details viewed and selected by head unit/steering wheel controls

if buying secondhand ensure it has all the parts - the last one on Ebay from a main dealer was missing a cable!

to be honest this is the sort of item i'd never consider buying secondhand as you cannot see/hear it working

Hey, the OP asked what options were available and I offered one! If I thought the Dension was to be avoided I'd have said so as would be reasonable forum practice. The unit was fitted in my Jag so I knew what it could do and when my wife asked if she could have one in the RRS, I just swapped it over.

As for the smart remark about doing it on the cheap, charming. As I'm sure you've tested all the options personally I'll bow to your superior knowledge but I can assure you if it didn't work, it'd have no place in a car of mine.

no need to get upset - the comment about doing it 'on the cheap' is not just my opinion - now that the cars are costing about the price of a cheapish new 'family car' there are a new generation of owners who think they can run them on the cheap - sorry, but its still a £60K+ car and carries the associated costs to maintain/modify etc

I've not tested all options but if you look on the various specialist RR forums every option has been tried/tested and there are some very knowledgeable/technical guys on these forums who often know more than main dealers

the conclusion - the only way to get a proper integrated system is to use the Dension OEM kit - end of!

Does anyone know if the Dension unit supports the iPhone5?

Also, is it only the cable, or a cradle too? Is it located in the centre console?

Now too see if they will be able to get it here in LR Dubai. Hopefully my first RRS is being bought today :-)

suggest you ask Dension or a main dealer in the UK

no experience of dealers in Dubai but in Saudi all they know about is 'extra's' and bling!
