Ok, it might not be 'computers' but it certainly is 'stuff' 
I just had a call on my mobile from someone claiming to be from Vodafone. The number was withheld.
To proceed with the conversation they wanted my name, address and account password.
Problem was, how do I know they were from Vodafone? I declined to give my details and they said they couldn't proceed with the conversation then - which was fine by me
So, real or scam?

You even have to ask if it was a scam? 
If they had been Vodafone they would have congratulated you on being security conscious, given you a reference number, and invited you to call them on the customer service number printed on the top of your phone bill and quote the reference number.
That's what Orange Customer Services did when I got a legitimate call from them recently.

I must admit, when Orange asked me for my full password I told them I didn't give that out to unsolicited calls. The chap contratulated me on being so security aware, told me he knew the password and could I give him letters 2 and 5 (let's say). I figured that was safe enough and did so, but I did feel like asking why he hadn't done that in the first place. I mean, it doesn't really encourage people to be aware of scams where they ask for your full password if they're doing the same thing themselves, does it?
In general I am very wary of giving out any personal details to unsolicited calls and will always prefer to phone the company back on their published number. It may cost money (ie. phoning them rather than them phoning you) but it is safer.
