What to go to Le Mans in

I have the option to go with a couple of mates, choice of vehicles being an RS6 or a big motorhome.
What are the pros and cons with each as I have never done Le Mans before and don't have a clue about camping, costs, facilities etc.

I suppose it depends on the cost different between the RS6 and motor home but if you have a space to bunk down in the motor home then that will save on the camping cost and be a lot dryer if it rains (DOH I have mentions the R word!!!!)

Fuel wise, the RS is probably under 20mpg, motorhome 25ish. But motorhome much comfier.

We went in a motorhome in 2011 and it was fantastic. You can't blatt down there like idiots anymore without the fear of getting a big fine or your car confiscated so take the motorhome. Downside is the tolls will cost you a lot more but when you are there you have all the benefits of the motorhome.

Audi's are as rare as hen's teeth at Le Mans

Choose whatever you think you will have the most fun in.
Easier with the car to drive out to shops and buy food. See different part of the circuit etc etc.

Hey - at the end of the day - if you think you made a bad choice - don't do it next year.

Whilst it'd be more fun in the RS on the roads, I hear the camping is mega basic so the motorhome maybe the best bet. It also has a PH sticker on it......

Camping is camping. There are showers, bogs etc and it's only for a few days. Take the RS6

If worst comes to the worst and it pees with rain all weekend stick the back seats down and sleep in it!

Both! The van is the obvious choice for a bit more comfort and will be a godsend if it pisses it down the whole time. But if you are taking only the van then that will be a bit of a ball ache if you want to go out to the shop or drive to st saturnin or another part of the track as you will have to pack away your stuff every time. HTH

+1 or any sports car to be honest.

FYI tolls for a motorhome are the same as a car if you avoid the auto tolls. Even with three axles.

Having tried Le Mans many ways, nothing beats having your own pot to piss in and a fridge working 24/7.

Take the Audi. Enjoy the drive down and rough it with the rest of us in the campsite....it's part of the trip. If you want creature comforts and your own bog, stay at home and watch it on the telly.

Depends on which RS6, if it's a C5 then take the motorhome as the C5 will probably break down If it's a C6 then I'd take that every time.

This will be the first year I will be heading to Le Mans without a sports car - I'm taking a VW camper instead (stickered up of course

Other than the toll boths, you rarely get to have any proper fun on the way down, but there is a sense of 'event' in heading down in something special. Having said that, the people who seem to be enjoying themselves the most a couple of years ago were on a double decker bus.

Driving around once at Le Mans is an increasing fag in my opinion - too many idiots by the side of the road. I'd much rather be sat pool side with a beer in my hand in the sun watching the metal rumble by. I'm rather looking forward to pulling up on the campsite (whatever the weather) and pulling an ice cold beer out of the fridge. I'll get my sports car fix on the way down by enjoying other people's cars and those of my convoy friends (which will include all the noise porn one could wish for in the shape of a Can Am Ultima and a 458)

No doubt I will miss the Aston - when prompted the sound of a VW diesel doesn't have quite the same sensation as a Vantage or Tuscan at full chat, but I can't say I am overly concerned - plenty of corvettes, astons and vipers on track this year
