2002 Beetle (given the 'Herbie' look)

Decided to advertise my Mercedes at the beginning of the months, thought it may take a couple of weeks to sell but (thanks to Pistonheads Classifieds) 3 hours later the car had sold and was on its way upto London....

It was bank holiday Monday and i REALLY needed a car for the following day - Luckily i remembered that on of my members of staff wanted to sell her VW Beetle. A Beetle really isn't me at all, but its practical and the car was goo with MOT and everything working etc. So i decided i could live with the yellow and the looks for a few weeks....

Anyway. now found a replacement, but i just couldn't stop myself from doing this to the car on Saturday....

Now my wife is wishing she didn't have a company car as she wants it, and its grown on me too...

Mentioned to a friend that i was thinking of doing something to my Beetle to make it a little different (nothing major, as i only intend to have the car for a couple of week)....

He has all the kit to make vinyl graphics - so we went for a (slightly altered) Herbie look, i binned the tired old wheel trims and went for a retro steel wheel (painted the factory 16" wheels)

These are the results of several hours work.....

But, but.... Herbie was more cream than yellow....

Yeah, if it was cream it would have been great.... But I only had yellow to work with

Those wheels really make the look for me. Not to everyones tastes and is rather cliched, but I kinda like it.... great job!

very amusing! I assume it is a 2.0 8v and not a 20vt as a tuned 20v Herbie could be a awful lot of fun

How did you come about the 16 inch steels? I was looking for some for my Corrado to use as winters and found that some people want more than alloy prices for them.

It's just a 1.6 petrol. As mentioned it was just a stop gap until I found the right A4 (B6) Cabriolet.
But it only cost £35 in materials to do the graphics and the wheels - I just couldn't help myself.
It receives lots of thumbs up and happy beeps from other road users though.

BTW - The wheels are the standard Beetle wheels with the plastic trims binned and then painted.

The wheels are great. It always makes me smile when I see one of these with a flower in the vase.

You see, I really hate that etc etc, the steelies make it kind of cool.
