Brief summary... I'm 27 years old and currently walking like my Granddad!
This is the second time this has happened without explanation.
I woke up on Friday in absolute agony, left foot big toe joint sore to touch and unable to move big toe. Walking was very difficult. I've not knocked it in any way, it's come on overnight. It's the joint between 1st metatarsal and phalange, on the outside.
This morning it hasn't changed (going to see my GP, got appointment in morning) but my foot looks swollen on top.
Last time this happened it was sore for maybe 3 days then miraculously was fine the next day.
What is going on?

I agree with the rest sounds very much like gout. I lost 15 stone 15 years ago which started gout off. Have to be very careful. No red meats ,oily fish ,shellfish, processed foods, beer. And loads of other foods that are off the menu. Good fillet steak and i'm in agony.
I think you can get diy blood testing kits to see your purines levels . Gout is a form of arthritis.

I've fairly recently lost 6 stone and I eat steak 3 times a week.
I've not experienced pain like this ever.
Get on the net have a look on gout diets. Massive change in your eating sorry. Gout is more common then we think . 1 in 200 aprox.I've not experienced pain like this ever.
Avoid red meats. seafoods.

I always get diclofenac from abroad you can get them over the counter and are cheap. Always have them in just in case i have an attack. It saves going to the docs and being prescribed the same tables and paying £8 for them, When you can get abroad for 50p.
Go to the docs first just to confirm it is gout.
