Is that how it should be? Ie the gap between the rubber, and I'm guessing the underside of the damper mount.
The front of the car was jacked up when the pic was took. Would this be part of the top mount? If not, what?

Yes, that's part of the top mount and it looks like it has split. I have an old one in the garage. I will have a look later.

Here's a pic of one of my old ones. The rubber is tight up against the mount. I would imagine that yours will be allowing dirt into the roller bearing?

Cheers for that Molly. I have a feeling the near side front is split aswell and pretty sure Ive paperwork stating at least one of the rears is also.
When it comes to new dampers and springs, it looks like new top mounts as well then.
