So I finally went out in a new 2013 Cayman
Discussion
Well after doing a 1500 miles in my 944 S2 this weekend, I followed it up by going out in a new Cayman. I have to say that it is a fantastic car, having been out in the earlier gen 1 and 2 Caymans this one is a whole new ball game, it's like comparing a Civic Type R to an NSX in my opinion. If I could afford one I would be straight down there waving my cash about. There is a couple of downsides, I do think the interior looks like that of an Audi, the steering wheel is a tad cheap and the electric steering does remove some of the feeling, but nothing that would change my mind on one.
But the worst bit is that I went out in a 991 not so long ago and I think that the new Cayman is actually a far better car.
I think that a new Cayman without the electric steering would be about as good as it gets.

...fair comment on the Cayman -- I was lucky enough to get a short drive of a UK press car last weekend (Cayman S w/ PDK & all the toys)
Simply an incredible car -- everything so well resolved with incredibly high dynamic limits. Hard to describe (or believe) unless you've actually experienced a drive.
A true step change from Porsche -- can only imagine it would leave many more powerful cars trailing on a challenging circuit....

I felt exactly the same way, about the 991 too. Was almost ready to buy one, but then the sun came out and I got my 911 out, ha ha no way am I going to be buying a kettle anytime soon. Just done 1500 miles with 18 other Porsches to the ring and then on to Stuttgart, just brilliant But the worst bit is that I went out in a 991 not so long ago and I think that the new Cayman is actually a far better car.

The Cayman has always been a better car than the 911
....probably fair to say "objectively better" simply due to the more favourable weight distribution/layout ?
The 911 remains the icon and rightly so ...50 years of success and forever evolving ...the Cayman's still the young buck ;-)
